I posted a picture of this bear's den cedar last week.  Today the customer told me that he wanted it to disappear.... ;D
On the FF this loading process is called "parbuckling.  My granddad called it cross-hauling.  I guess that is was crossways across the loading ramps and he was hauling it up.  Anyway it works.  My grandson had never seen this done and was amazed.  That's an 8K MileMarker winch on the front.  I have hooks on each side of the trailer for the snatch block so that I can load from either side.  (yes it do make a racket when they hit the trailer bed.. ;D)

Now I've got to figure out what I'm going to do with them.  Split rails maybe?

Ooooo....

Great idea, Bibby! 8)

Shadow boxs or jewelry boxes, too. :)
I do what the little voices in my wife's head tell me to do.

I've sliced them on our Wood-Mizer by standing a chunk on end.  You got to watch and not crush them with the clamp.  Slice some at an angle too.

Magicman -
Great set of pics to show the loading process - thanks.

Nice trailer - how long is the bed?

I'm putting a winch on my wish list today.

Thanks, Marty.  That trailer is 18'.  Since I don't have a trans-portable loader, that setup works well when I need to haul logs.  If it doesn't rain, I'll probably be able to post some pictures of my "skidder" using a pair of end tongs tomorrow.

Nice trailer and nice setup for loading.  But how is the un-loading?

We get customers all the time with these drop-down deck trailers.  They are most miserable to unload.  We most often take the Terex and skidding tongs and pull them off the back.  Loading bundles of lumber on them with a fork loader is a pain also.  We kind of do a controlled dump.

Right Bibby, If I unload it at my place, I have a backhoe e/w a front end loader.  I use end tongs which works nicely.  If I unload at a customer's location, sometimes they have a tractor with a front end loader.  Other times, we have to just hook on and "slide" them out the back.  I've even had to loop a chain around a tree, etc. and drive the trailer out from under them.

True enough, trailer sides are a royal pain sometimes.  Cross-haul loading (parbuckle) drops them into the trailer, which is rough, especially if it is a green 28 inch 16 foot oak log.... ;D

I have a 16' trailer very similar to the one pictured in the first post.  I built mine from scratch several years ago.  Mine has a 2"x2"  1/4" wall box tube for the top rail and it's supported by vertical pieces of 3" channel welded to the main 4" angle frame.  I noticed this one also appears to have tube for the vertical pieces where most of the 7,000# trailers use angle.  What I do on mine is I have two pieces of 3"x4" box tubing  3/16" wall that are notched to fit over the top rails crossways on the trailer.   I have a tab welded down on them and  a corresponding hole in the 3" channel uprights where I can "pin" or bolt them onto the trailer.   This keeps logs out of the lower deck and keeps them up where I can easily unload them by rolling them off.   Also makes it easier to load lumber on with a set of forks.   Hope I made it clear I will try to get a pic of it.

Hi,

I would mill myself two or three timbers an inch or so higher than the rails and set them width wise across the deck.

Save yourself the deck abuse loading and a peavy will unload at home.

BTW NIce shots of your parbuckle and the shadow box gets my vote....

woodhick, I understand your modification.  I've thought about doing that, but it's just one of those things that I haven't gotten to yet.  It does raise your center of gravity, but it eliminates the "side" problem.  I have a chance to get a flat bed "car hauler", but just how many toys must I have?...... ;D
