Two part question:
1. how do you figure equipment cost? per hour
2. what is the rate in your area for a JD450 tracked skidder?

mahonda

Well there is a few calculators out there that you can use.  You plug in costs like fuel, life of the machine, track costs and time before replacing them. Grease and other needs plus some for the parts replacement, that you will have with any machine. http://www.volvo.com/NR/rdonlyres/6D4A265B-6B9F-4A52-97FC-21F19711B652/0/TCO_public.swf This seems to be a good one to start. One old boy told me charge adollar an hour for every thousand you paid, but thats not the best math I'm sure. and i think i'd charge 75.00 an hour around here for a 450 depending on the job and what attachments you have? ripper? winch? grapple? brush blade?

we have a local guy who rents older iron, he services and sells used iron too.  He has a JD450G w/ 6 way blade, arch and winch for $25.00/hr, with a $50.00 drop off and $50.00 pickup when you are done, with a 4 hour rental minimum.

Thanks for the imput.
The Volvo site was very helpful. The only hard part with it was getting values low enough for our old equipment.

Murdock,

E gads, I would not own iron if I could rent it for that. WOW cheap.

I hear you.  I think the same.  He has been here longer that I have, and seems to be doing ok what he is doing tough.  Go Figure.  If I need a cat for anything that my skidder won't do, I know where to go.

Wow, that price sounds too good to be true. I wonder if he'll deliver one to New York? Never heard of anyone priced that low.
