I'm looking for someone to do some slabbing in mid or Southern Michigan. This is for a friend who has some 36" dia. logs. Any Ideas?  Short of using an Alaskan style mill I would rather do it on a dedicated machine with more power than a chainsaw. (I'm getting tired of pushing the durn thing. )

Most band mills should do a pretty good job with that size log.  Yes, 36" is the max size for many but when the logs is straighten up a bit and the slabing begins the band mill will get most of the slabs cut.

My mill can slab up to 28" maybe a bit more.  When I do this for folks they may end up with a couple of slabs with one straight side. ;)

Is it hard to cut straight slabs on a bandmill?  Even with a good blade and proper setup?
