I don't get poison ivy very quickly, so a lot of what I've heard is from other people.

If it is already blistered, then you might want to try calamine lotion.  Its available over the counter.

If you have just walked through it, than any strong soap will wash away most of the oils.  The oils is what you are alergic to.  I've even heard of people using clorox.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

clorox will dry it up but I think it is an off lable use! I don't think my eighteen year old daughter would put up with the burn either :'(

I've used bleach to dry up mild cases of poison ivy.  If it's bad enough, then go to the doctor...they can hook ya up with prednisone (sp?) and betamethazone cream...works real good.

Isn't that Zanfel stuff what Paul Harvey has been makin such a hissy about? Supposed to be durn near a miracle they way he says it. Coure, he may be gettin paid to say that.
 ;)
If it works, don't matter who told ya, right?

;)  BOTH MY SONS JUST HAD POSIN IVY.  MY YOUNGEST EVEN HAD IT ON HIS EYELIDS!  DON'T DO ANYTHING.  CALL THE DOCTOR.  THEY WON'T PRESCRIBE ANYTHING UNLESS IT'S ON 3 OR MORE EXTREMITIES BUT IF IT IS THEY'LL GIVE HER PREDNISONE IF IT'S BAD ENOUGH.  MY BOYS GOT A TOPICAL CREAM CALLED ELOCON AND IT WORKED IN TWO DAYS.  ALL THE BLISTERS WERE GONE.  TAKING A LOT OF BATHS WILL HELP THE BLISTERS TO SWELL AND BURST.  THAT WILL START THE HEALING PROCESS. KEEPING THE AREA COVERED WITH TEGADERM WILL MINIMIZE SCARRING.

Wash with ivory soap then apply calimine. :P

I'm terribly allergic to poison ivy.  I get it at least twice a year, sometimes more.  And even in the winter (TSI).  My doctor thinks it's hillarious.

Whenever I know I've gotten into it, I wash with Tecnu, which is made by a company called Oak-n-Ivy.  Seems to prevent the rash a lot of the time.  If I get the rash, I just mope around for about a week covered with Benadryl cream or Cortisone 10 unless I get it in the face.  That's when I go to the doctor.  I have learned to not touch my face with my hands when I go outside.

I feel for her.  I hate the stuff.

talked with her today, she thought it was getting better but it was worse today.I guess the worst is on her legs and since the storm she has been wearing long pants. I told her to wear shorts to give it some air but she said her legs are too hairy ::)

My wife said I was a pain in the BUTT,got to be careful using preperation H.

I have not heard of  'Zanfell' see their claims state .........what is actually known about Technu..........developed by a chemist in Albany, Oregon.

Have used their products and they work. For your daughters relief ,  calgel works great.
