Brand new here, looking for info on what classes I might take

in order to get the type of certification/degree to work for the forestry? Is there anyone around that might give me some info on that? I live in the country near Medford Oregon. I will appreciate any info you might share with me. Also, once I complete school, how much chance is there that I can get hired, I mean "job availability".

Get a BS Degree in Forestry. By the time you graduate, the economy is bound to be better and demand for jobs will likely be too. Plus, old-timers like me (and one or two others on this Forum

) will have retired, leaving spots for the young whippersnappers.

There is what I wanted to know, so a BS is what I need to work for the forestry? I mean in any good position that pays and may give me some retirement? I am 56 now so I don't have a lot of time. I am trying to choose something I feel I would love to do but also, that pays.

What have you been doing for the last 35 years? Can some of that experience be applied to a forestry degree, or help getting a forestry job?

One should never stop learning and it is never too late to get an education. At this juncture in your life, you should definitely pursue something that you have a passion about.

Yes, I think some of it can. I have mostly been an administrative assistant, built websites, callcenter work(customer service). But nothing in the way of outdoor type work. I don't hold any degrees though either. I was a 21 dealer up until age 33. Then I went back to school and got an accounting certificate.

I found out today my neighbor works for the Forestry Service. I am going to catch her when I can and ask her some questions. She only started for them 4 years ago and she is a bit older than I am.

thank you much:) I found out at Job Council that there was predicted to be "1" forestry opening per year,

!! I think I better try another route. But I am going to continue to research it because I might fit into the "industry" in some capacity;) Denise

Have you contacted your local USDA-Forest Service office to let them know of your interest? They often have several work programs that you might fit in to. Ask them about the Older American program, if it still exists.
