Not sure, but if you are using one chain, you will get some swingin.  I use two chains, each hooked to a grab hook welded to the top edge of the bucket. The log stays true with the bucket then, and if chained up short, can be controlled by rolling (curling) the bucket up.
I may be missing the point of your problem, but don't like logs swinging around smashing my 'green' paint.
