Furnace works fine till it gets below 20 degrees, can't get the heat above 170's (set at 185)smokes like crazy(worse then my neighbors 6048).Checked everything, nothing blocked, everything working.Cleaned out the ashes from the firebox today, hope that was the problem.Ist year learning curve I hope, any ideas?

sounds to me that you are not getting a secondary burn in your reaction chamber. If you have an older model and it has the old style fusion combustor check it to see if it is blown.

Does wood dryness matter that much? I'm cutting up dead fall oak in the woods, been on the ground for a couple years, its not rotted yet.Using rounds not split.

You can add some wet wood on top of an established fire and it will dry, but if your trying to just burn wet wood your not going to have much luck getting a large amount of heat.

beenthere is asking a very good question.Wood laying on the ground will not dry as well as split wood under cover, like in a wood shed.I do feel you need your wood dry from what I've been reading on here.I do not have a Classic ,but others will help you.

What is really odd is that I have had no problem burning the wood since september. The smoking and hard to reach temps, only started to happen when the outdoor temps dropped into the teens.??????????Fusion damper??????

One thing that happened to me, I also had an older model bought on rebate with the firebricks still in. Dealer told me to remove if they fall off and I should have removed them right away accrding to CB. Creosote got behind the blocks and ran down into the air holes. When I removed the the bricks one warmer day and heated it up with the door open, (be careful) pushing in the switch to see what the deal was creosote ran out my air holes that I thought were all open and they were plugged. I was wondering why my burn changed from front to back. Be sure all holes are open.

Jist my 2 cents.
