Evening all. This is mainly for the spinners. Any one have a good used 60" saw they would be willing to part with. I built my frame to swing one. Will use my 52" till i find one. Chuck

Chuck,

I've got one from my retired mill, along with a few smaller blades. I don't recall the pattern but I'll try to remember to look. I'm in Florida though, so freight might be a problem.

Hey Mark, depends on where in Florida. I went to Sarasota and picked up a engine lathe last spring. Just had good quality time with the wife on a road trip. So depending on the price and what time of year that wouldn't be unheard of. Would weigh time and fuel against shipping cost. The saw shop in Shreveport does a nice job of hammering so that's something I'll look into. Thanks for replying Chuck

Chuck 60" is a big wheel,I've heard they can be a problem to keep the tension right. For years I ran a dinky little 44" B pattern 33 tooth headsaw and can't remember ever running into a log I couldn't mill.I'am sure some of the old timers will chime in that have used one.A huge blade requires some serious horse power and many belts.Frank C.

I have a 60" saw in the garage for sale. Another mill was supposed to buy it, but they haven't stopped by yet. I'll go look at it to see what pattern it is.

Hey guys, your right it takes a lot. I have a 10 groove sheave with 7 belts pulling the mill and 3 going to my edger. Driving all of this from a 300 HP International V-8 industrial  motor with twin disc cluthes. There's been a few times when using the 52,54" plates that I had to rip the back out of the red oak and pine that I drug home. I get some really big stuff from time to time. When I decided to relocate the mill to my property I knew I wanted the option to put a bigger blade on it. So I poured all my footings and base to support the big ones. I'll still use my smaller ones as primary. We just got a digital so one day soon I hope to have some shots of where I'm at with the rebuild for you guys to critique. Chuck

Are you NOW, using a large circle blade on a swinger of some sort ???

How are-will you keep the blade from drooping on the horizontal ??? without a guide of some sort supporting the blade ???  Won't-isn't it going to get hot from rim rub ???

I'm not all that smart, so, please explain a little. Thanks  ??? ???

Hey Florida, this is a old style circular sawmill. The blade stays in the vertical position all the time mounted on a horizontal mandrel. Sorry about the confusion. Chuck

whew... the word "swing" in the first post made me want to make sure I'm at least 100 miles from where you'd use it!
