Guys two questions if you will. Putting a frame under my Hudson 28. I was wondering what the track height is for most of these smaller mills"? Another thing would be how long to make the log ramps per your mill height?
Thanks for any help you can give me......

My mill is 2 feet high and the ramps are 8 feet. I parbuckle onto the mill via a mounted winch. Rolling a big log up the ramp w/ a peavy is impossible (for me) .

how high is up to you, what feels right, I'd have to go out and measure my mill height, I don't know what it is right off the top of my head......

If you have heavy equipment to move the logs to the log deck then make it the same height as the mill.....I'd guess, so that you can roll them right onto the mill...

Whatever you do, have fun doing it!

I built a trailer for my Oscar 28. It is about 2 feet off the ground when set up. I made my ramps out of 2x2x1/4 angle iron and the ramp is 5 feet long. It works good for me. Largest log loaded with the hand crank winch was 22 inch x 12 foot water oak. The are pictures in my album.

All of the old circle mills around here were set up on a slope where the skid blocks were level and the outer ends were at ground height - thus logs could be rolled up with a cant hook.  That's the major reason our sawshed is setting along the side of a hill instead of on high ground.  We had a manual mill then. Now we don't need the gravity help as we have loaders and live deck, it's not the right place as water runs into the sawshed when we have a lot of rain.

Hey guys ,I just built a trailer for my Oscar 228.Its 20' long and 2' tall on wheels.I will be able to slide the axles off and lower it to 18" with the 4 corner jacks .I hope it will be a comfortable height. It is ready for paint so I haven't sawed on it  yet ,but I am looking forward to it.Logs will also be loaded with a hand winch.I will try to post some pictures.

The generally accepted rule of thumb is 60% in front of the axle and 40% behind.
