A good friend and I have thrown disc for close to 40 years.  We both have low IFA numbers and lot of good times.

Anyway, here's what he's getting for his birthday.  I doubt it gets thrown much as it is a bit over the 165 gram Master it was copied from.

I don't burn as much as Jeff but had fun.  The small size of the lettering  got tough but was fun.

here it is with a couple of Old Masters.

Something a little different, eh?

That's really cool.  That's the sort of gift that I like to give. :)  I got a wooden toilet plunger from Burlkraft's Jill a couple years ago and I look at it everyday.  smiley_smug01

Yep, ...........maple.  Maybe birch next time will keep some of the V groves from breaking up.  Semi gloss poly for a finish by the way. ;D

what are you holding it with when you turn the inside, vacuum chuck?  seems like the jumbo jaws rubber grips wouldn't reach.

Chucks don't have to have super tall tenon to grab if there's a bit of a dovetail for the jaws to seat.  On the top of the disc, there's about a 3" ring that was the dovetail until I  sanded it into a bevel.

I'm thinking about a vacuum chuck  but haven't got there yet.

The video of the 2010 pigroast was nice.  Got to try to get back again. It was awful nice a few years ago when we came up .  Maybe next year........ 8)

Let's start a thread on that when anyone makes a move.  My Conover lathe has a female LH thread outboard and there's a hole through the spindle.  Trying to find someone who's converted one for vac chucking.

Very nice work Lud. I was talking about ya at the pig roast and your barn owl. Jeff and I couldn't remember your name. From reading this thread, looks like you were already at one of the roasts. That Jeff is suppose to remember this stuff. ;D :D

One other thing, if your buddy ever gets tired of frisbee tossing, he could use it as a collection plate. ;D Some years ago, and I have no idea how long, someone turned some maple bowls for church collection plates. They have red felt in the bottom. I know they are a lot older than me.

I was just kidding about the collection plate though. ;D

That's really neat!

Figuring out chucking systems is all part of the fun of working on the lathe.  My buddy uses a vacuum set up and loves it. But, Like you, i haven't made the move yet.
I do what the little voices in my wife's head tell me to do.
