Gday

Well just when i thought yeah ill take a break from fulltime milling and Help dad get things moving with his log building business for 6 to 12 months as he and mum just imported a new woodlandia log lathe and processing line and have 3 large jobs  to do this year  ;) i get two calls this week one bloke offering me 125 ton of A & B grade Mountain Ash logs from trees with 2' to 4' butts for $50 per ton or $0.11 cents a bft pick up and another Mate rang to say he has a large block that he will be starting in afew months with 300+ acres  of Mixed Hardwood that was fire killed that would only be good for dunnage and some specialty beams realy but there is a hell of alot of it avaliable at a good price

Dad and i have talked about it and think its a good opertunity but there is only two of us and i dont want to put any presure to whats already going to be a hectic shedual  ;)

chris,
looks like it is one world after all. i think we need lj to dream up some concoction to help you be in 2 places at the same time.

for me i usually have help from my wallet deciding which place to be. if its empty i have to go to work. if its not so emptyi go help someone else. oh by the way my wallet has never been full.   pc

Gday Paul

thats the bloody problem mines been empty for the last 18 months me wallet fell outa the butt of my pants along time ago  :D :D :D but i am a persistant bastard though Mate  ;) ;D ;D 8)

Last year was a shocker for me and the worst runn ive ever had  :o :) ??? Id had about $250ks worth of high value work over 5 jobs fall through or not get the go ahead for some reason or other it gets abit depressing somtimes when you do all the leg work and running around organizing somthing then it collapses the you organize somthing else then it buggers up on you but thats life  ;) no one ever sad it was gonna be easy  ;) :D  :D :D

Mum and Dad have offerd me good money and the works there contracts are signed and everythings ready to go its a known quantity which is why im cautious about making any moves which could cost me alot of money if somthing stuffs up Mate

Lj get onta that duplicating machine quick fast Mate  ;) ;D and remeber we dont want to be making copys of copys we all know what happens there  ;) :D :D :D

Gday Paul

I Just found My Double Mate  ;)  ;D 8) 8) Darren a good Mate  i grew up with and I have sawn on and of at the same mill for about twelve years  ;) And He knows his way around a mill too  ;)  8) as he started sawing at my grandfathers old mill on the  auto meadows  ;) and has owned a Lucas and now owns a Morpack which he is getting going at the moment  ;) and he is one the best sawyers ive seen working  ;) ;D 8) the good thing is we have the same thinking on how things are done  ;) ;D 8) 8)

He will be sawing it with me on fri and sat as ive told the farmer that ill take it and that they can stock pile it on the farm as we can mill it onsite we are aiming at getting about 4200 to 5000 bft tray truck load out in two days n bring it home on the sat and deliver it on the monday itll be most likely going into 4x3" x 8',12' and 16' lengths dunnage at $1.10 a bft unless we get a better offer for graded stuff but like darren and i ageed whats the point in chasing around after 3 or 4 different yards who only want to pay an extra $0.40 cents a bft when we can punch it out and send it to the one costomer which will pay as we go it should only take 5 or 6 weekends to do the 30000bft app sawn   ;) ;D 8) 8)

Ill still be working 9hr days for Mum and Dad from Mon to Thursday  ;) ;D ;D 8) 8) 8)

Where theres a Will theres a Way Mate  ;) :D ;D ;D ;D 8) 8)

i hope your fix works out for you.

i am feeling a little pulled now too. we are trying to make hay here in oklahoma and when you are making hay you dont do much of anything else. i just got a order for some oak posts, some live edge cedar trim, and i could cut all the 3x4 -10' dunnage i could haul.

i rekon by the time i get back to sawing i will have forgot what i know and i will be knocking the band off on the return and cutting 1'' off of the log stops like someone else  we all know.

i hope your double dont mess up so bad that you wind up mad at yourself! pc

Paul Im safe as houses with Darren and he's one of the few blokes id do this sort of thing with  ;)  ;D 8) He is un apreciated for his skill and amount of effort he puts in at the mill he works at atm hence why he's had his own mills over the years and is working towards having his own operation in the next few years  ;)

im also safe guarding myself by milling the logs onsite as they will all be tree length not like getting stuck with a yard full of 12's when everyone wants 8',9'and 10' lengths or somthing like that  ;) plus if things do go sour for some bloody reason on either end im not left sitting on a heap of logs or worring about a huge outlay to worry about covering while ppl make up their minds what they want or when they want it :) ??? ::) We,ll just cover the imput costs as we go  ;)

after this job ill be focusing on doing  portable milling jobs on weekends untill i have my home built  ;) then ill be back at it fulltime doing things properly ;)  ;D 8)

Sure wish I was 29 again with all the energy and drive I had then- I think a little clearer now (lower hormone level thanks to prostate cancer) but ability to work 9-10 hour days like I once did all gone and not coming back.  Oh, well, being alive is its own reward, and having grandkids to wear you out is just frosting on the cake- birthday party yesterday for the oldest grandson- 12 now!- and we spent couple of hours at one of those food-is-ok-and-the-kids-play-all-the-video-games-free places.  Found out the three year old just loves to crash his racecar (on screen) into anything in the way- laughs like crazy!

Hang in there, Chris- things may not always get better, but since your memory gets worse, you can't really tell anyway...

come on lj , i thought you would have the answer for needing to be at 2 places at one time. i could sure use the solution since i would like to be milling and i need to be baling hay too. pc

I think that you answered your own question.  "would like"....."need".  Sometimes we just gotta suck it up and do what a man's gotta do.    ;D :D

Besides, it's really hard being two places at once, when you're really nowhere at all...  ;D
