As suggested here I am planning to look at some used bandmills, I've got time on my side and more to learn anyway.  Woodmizer is the most common brand I see advertised but wonder if there are some online specs to be found for models no longer in production? I've seen the LT 30 listed often and a model 25, I wonder about others? I'm looking at personal mills or maybe  larger in used since the price would be better.
I know I titled this for WM mills but what about specs on the lumbermate 2000 as well?
Thanks again.

I don't know any online source for data on older mills - Wood-Mizer or otherwise.  But if you spot a older WM and are interested in it,  you can take down the serial number and call WM.   They can tell you everthing there is to know about it. When made, who bought it, any upgrades that were done that they were involved with, etc.

LT 30 may or not be old.  You can probably still buy a new LT 30. They are just shorter LT40s.  Not as popular any more and WM does not promote them.  The LT25 was replaced by the LT28 a few years ago.

This helps, I figured just the oposite in my mind and that the LT30 was replaced by the LT28. I'm glad to have this forum as a resourse and don't know that I would continue down this road without it and y'all!

I just saw a listing for a LumberTiger mill but can't find anything online, anyone know much about this maker?
much appreciated.

As far as I know.. The LT30 and the LT40 are the same except for bed length.  The LT30 having a max 16' and the LT40 - 21.   The old LT25 was a stripped down LT30 with push feed, etc.

The LT28 has, as far as I know, had the 21' bed length - like the LT40.  It started out with push/crank feed like the LT15.  The LT28 is more like the LT15 head on an LT40 bed.

Here is a Youtube video of an LT25.  Note the pull start engine.  It does have crank feed so it must be fairly new model.  Also log deck package.

There are a few lumber tigers in my area, mostly amish owned. I believe they are made in Ohio. The ones that I saw were push models-- no electrics or hydraulics.  I think that is why the amish had them.  there may be different models available

On the LT40, many upgrades were made in 1998.  I know that there is a considerable difference between my mill and a '97 model.

Norwood also keeps a registry of their mills. The older model like mine, had no serial #, they followed then thru the 1st buyer. They now have a serial #.

Yea,  I figured it out too after I made the post - being carykong that is.

BTW,  just to confuse matters,  there is also an LT27 model.  It's the same as an LT25 except the longer 21' bed.

i can understand those numbers but the numbers on newer tractors make my head spin. some of the new jd compact tractors have the same numbers as the old two lungers, just confuses me. i guess it dont take much!  pc

Good evening Forum, I did indeed purchase my LT 25 new in Jan 2000.  Drove to Indianapolis from Williamsburg ,Va. in my 1985 150 to get the one day training and pick up the mill. Purchase price just under $10k.  The training was mandatory if you wanted to qualify for the 30 day money back guarantee. Never regretted my purchase. The mill really suits my needs for occassional use. Has a single cylinder 15 horsepower Kohler still original. Motor has never given me any trouble just normal maintence like new plug, oil change, and filter. Mill has never been sheltered. Keep the motor under a canvas cover. One significant difference between LT 25 and 28 is the larger moter and electric start.
It would be nice to have a longer cutting bed but have no desire for electric start, battery and starter maintence. I just keep some spare nylon rope around if I break the starter chord. Delighted by the way that Bibbyman posted my youtube video. Yeah,I like my mill. No need for  expensive membership at the local fitness club. My mill keeps me rather fit. cheers,Carykong aka Cary

You're welcome.  I found it and then figure out it was by a Forum member.

Another significant difference is that the LT28 has a single post mast design like the LT70 but lighter and the saw head is pretty much the LT15 design.  I like the swing open doors and no post to hit when changing blades.  Well,  I think I would but none of our LT40's have had this head design.

I was out for the weekend and am now just catching up. Say a good deal can be found on an LT30 or other 16' mill, are there bed extentions to get out to about 20' on older mills considering the changes made in 1998 that MagicMan noted?
Thanks

You can get bed extentions for the LT30/40.  6',12' and maybe 21'.   But keep in mind, they are not portable.  If you want to move the mill,  you need to remove the extention and re-attach it when you set up again.

So Magicman, what are the differences between a 97 and 98 model LT40 Super? I'm looking at a 97, I don't want to buy one and wish I had held out for a new and improved version :)

I'm not dodging your question, but I would make a call to WM.  Marty Parsons may pick this up and give you a list of all of the upgrades/improvements.  The mill was really redisigned and made much heavier in '98.  Some options are not available for the '97, but again, that's a question for WM.
