A friend and I recently purchased an LT 28.  We have only sawed about 4 weekends and everything is working well so far but I would like to keep any commonly needed spare parts on hand.  What should we start with?
Thanks, Kyle

This is a tough question.  It is really dependent on your sawing strategy.   You can quickly get into a lot of $$$ stockpiling spare parts.   If you are doing commercial milling or custom portable sawing for hire you will need more in the way of ready spares than if you are just milling for yourself  or part time at home.

In either case I would start with spare band wheel belts, engine drive belt and power drive belts.   If you have hydraulics, get at least 1 hydraulic fuse.  If you bought the mill new there should be spare electric fuses inside the power box.  Otherwise, have those on hand as well.   Anything else is a crap shoot.

Check with Wood-Mizer for recommendations.

If down time is a concern, here are the parts we recommend to have on hand. I am showing both kits. One for if you have power feed and the other if you do not.

Thanks for the replies.  These were the parts that I assumed would be good to keep on hand but I wanted to make sure that I did not miss something obvious that would shut us down for several days.  We have limited time to saw and limited space to store wood after sawing but when we do saw, we like to saw all day.

Here is a link to a topic on parts I started some time back that may trigger some more thoughts.

We tend to keep a lot of spare parts because we are sawing full time for our only income.

One other thing we tend to do is, when something breaks, we tend to get two to replace it.

Yea,  I do the same thing.   It almost always guarantees that part won't ever break again.    :D :D

It's beginning to look like you might also get some extra "Qweaver" springs.

With the WM, you are going to use a lot fewer spare parts than you think.  I bought a bunch of stuff when I started sawing 8½ years ago.  I still have most of it...unused.

I am with MM on this. Most parts you can tell are getting bad before they need to be changed and Woodmizer seems to get the parts to me soon enough, over night if need be. I keep all my old working parts and they just sit on the shelf for the most part. If you want to get extra parts, get extra blades, you will use them up. I do keep extra fusible links, lower rail bearing, and guides on hand.
