Im  having the famous problem of my 5100 acting like it is running out of fuel- it is about ayear old and has not had more than 4 tanks of fuel run through it. I have checked fuel line and filter and adjusted carb (before it started this so it is not too lean out of box).  Is there a tank vent that could be restricted?  Air filter is good and not leaking I can hear a sucking sound when I shut the saw off that seems more than normal-- any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks Chris.

I'm not very familiar with the Dolmar 5100, but here is one troubleshooting thing you can try:

When the saw starts to show the problem, turn it off, crack the gas cap to let in some air, then re-tighten and restart. If it runs fine, at least for a while, you probably do have some sort of vent problem.

The tank vent is easy to find on those saws, as I remember it (I don't have the saw where I am at the moment). It is on the starter side of the saw.

I know there was a new version of the vent at some point, but I don't remember the reason for the change. Mine has the old version, and it still is fine.

I could not easily find the vent- do you have to take off the recoil starter to see it-  I was peaking around the carb and through the space where the handle attaches-- I also loosened the fuel cap and it seemed to do fine-- tightened it only enough where it does not appear to leak gas and it performed like it a champ-- I suppose the cap will fall off and drench my pants with gasoline at some point-- maybe not--- also no more sucking sound-- how does the vent work on those saws? on the stihls I have it is a short piece of tubing  with a small threaded rod or something in it-- I have repaced several of those-- on my echo there is a tube like a fuel line that sits in the area where the carb is-- Maybe ill be lucky and not have to do anything--

Thanks for the help
