Treeboy,
is the price of $200 for a 6' treated post a typo? I'm buying 8"x 8"x 12' square posts treated to .6 CCA for $58 per post. Treating to 2.5 is also available for not too much more. I know there is an exchange rate difference but surely not that much.

Nope - I have used this company before for all my PT wood - they had the best price. I phoned him up and asked for 12"-14" diametre logs 6' lenghts (sort of match the log in the cabin). He said it was a special order and quoted me like $230 CDN, just under $200 US. I asked if I heard that right  :o, he said it's a special order. Plus with the life span - I will haul bags of concrete in slowly. I figure about 5 bags per 8" pier, including the pad. The ground I'm building on has lots of fines - slow draining - not too wet though.

New to the site and still in Hawaii, but I am on orders for Fairbanks Alaska.  I have 21yrs in the Army and am looking to live out my dream by building my own cabin from the trees off of a piece of land that I would like to purchase.  Is there anyone in the Fairbanks area that can give a Vet some guidance.  I hope to 10k when I land in June and want to get the land quick, so that I can get the logs drying for a yr.  Thanks, you folks are my kind of folks.

Welcome
And we have member warbird, and member plicketycat at least in that area. Going to be some change to get used to after being in Hawaii.  ;D

Others in the area there as well, just not sure offhand how close to Fairbanks.

Here is the blog of Plicketycat  http://www.jenninewardle.com/

She and her husband are living another winter in a tent west of Fairbanks on 80 acre, building a cabin. Some pics and interesting trials and tribulations to read about. Apparently hunkered down in the tent, while the record low temps run their course.

A lot of other interesting reading to search here on the FF too.
