Tip to tip 79 7/8"



We've had this pasture ornament for years. Found him dead last weekend. No obvious signs of any trauma. He was only 18 , much to young for a Longhorn to die from old age.   
Just cause your head's pointed, don't mean you are sharp.

That's too bad.Not many in this area to look at. We have those hairy ones around here.

Going to do a skull mount and put the horns on the wall. That way they don't eat so much. (He was a steer. All he did was breath good air and eat grass.)

My neighbors have a small herd of longhorns and they've used longhorn bulls on their heifers for years.  They had one home raised bull that they could drive up to with the pickup and trailer, toss a little grain on the trailer floor and he'd load right up.  Always made me a little nervous watching that, his horns were almost as wide as the trailer, didn't leave a lot of room to get out. :o

He was probably choked to death by a crazed OU fan.

Hate to hear about your loss.  18 seems old for a cow.

Did he have any teeth left?

 Around here he sure would be an oldy, must be the Texeecan air is better for longevity  smiley_old_guy   Was thining thinking ( edit.. its just a one letter error  ::)  ) about them ther Rangers

 Losing those pasture ornements is always a sad thing  :-\   Hope you can get a small one to replace him and watch him grow old and wide!

As per the width of those horns , how wide do/can they get  8) :P   I am like thecfarm I only see the the hairy ones here , they do have nice head ornements though.

Isawlogs, The breed is noted for longevity. 25-30 years. Our Vet tells us there a 35 year old cow  near here. Horn length ranges from 6' to 9' with 112" being the longest on record for a live animal.
