i have alot of cases of oil mix-2 stroke. on the can it has mixing instructions for 32:1 mixture. they are 8 oz. cans.

i know im not this simple minded,.... but can i use this oil for my saws that need 40:1 and 50:1 mixtures. and if so please tell me what amounts of oil to a gallon of gas.

thanks in advance, your mathmatically challened friend, greg

At 32:1 you need 8 oz of oil for two gallons .  As far as the math goes at 40:1 for two gallons you should use 6.4 oz. and at 50:1 it is 5.12 oz.  In practice if I had a lot of 32:1 --- 8 oz bottles and I wanted a 50:1 mixture I would mix it together with a light 3 gallons of gasoline and you would be pretty close.  Hope this helps.

Lots of opinions and lots of good products...for me I run 32:1 in all my saws and motorcycles. When synthetics first came out I ran 40:1 as racing tended to push limits..50:1 on the early stuff was clean. but top ends didn't last as long, 32:1 was cooler running but had to clean power valves and the like more often. The catch now is I use a later generation synthetic which burns fairly clean so I don't see either  the carbon build up in the motors or "goo" running out the exhaust port I saw in the early synthetics. Learned years and years ago more oil has more benefits than penalties. There are many good synthetics to pick from so I won't be an advertisement. AND there are volumes of independent data to support almost every claim a oil company wants to make....nothing like living it and "pit" knowledge in the motorcycle racing circles was and probably still is (even with the hyper commercialization of that sport) a great source of data...might be the same in this motorsport.

How old is that oil you have? I haven't seen oil labeled at 32-1 in 25 years. Lubrication technology has improved tremendously in the last 2-3 decades. The absolute best oil back then isn't as good as the cheapest junk oil available today. The ratio doesn't matter as long as the oil is providing the necessary lubrication to prevent wear.

I haven't read the labels except for the ratings for almost as long.  Currently using a batch of Bel Ray H1-R. Other good brands include Spectro, Klotz, there are a lot of good oils out there. The major saw brands relabel some of the better oils out there as well; I went BACK to Bel-Ray after running out of Mobil One Racing 2-T.  Seen a few two stroke internals internals over the years..and the more things change the more they stay the same. More oil is more expensive, but does have benefits.  50:1 on oil labeled for that is OK..just I use 32:1. (LOL! and waste my moeny & polute as well!)

If you buy the little pre measured jugs the ratio is on them .It's the same oil just a different sized container . I've  ran TSC for years and never cooked a saw yet .Usually at 32 to 1 but 40 to 1 works fine too .

Funny, I've saved those little bottles and always had the bright idea of refilling them .Hasn't happened yet .Lawdy I've got about a garbage bag full .Maybe a trip to the curb is in order . :D

Al, I refill those small bottles, sometimes its hard to see the fill line as the bottles are not filled to the top. I just shine a flashlight in the open top makes it easy to see the level. Oil is considerably cheaper by the gallon and will fill a scad of those little bottles.Frank C.

I have a supply of those little bottles I refill. Don't like to look at little marks so I refill by weight. Weigh a full bottle and then use this weight on the refill. I have noted that the empty bottles all weigh about the same. My scales have a resolution of 0.1 oz and I usually add an extra 0.1 oz.

Oh I have refilled them as I do have some oil in quart jugs . For me though a 6 pack of little jugs could last a long time ,depending .Fact the last time I ran a saw was a 200T and that the first of Sept .

I was cutting in a tight spot in the eave of a house to put an addition on and nothing would fit, circular saw, sawzall etc .Out came the 200 T and the framing carpenter thought I acted  like a nut . Little did he know it wasn't an act . :D

There's a big dead oak though ,about a 90 footer that needs to come down so as soon as nice calm sunny day comes about down it shall fall .That one is just a tad too much for a 200T though .
