Geoff I'll politely ask that if you want to put stuff up like that to do so in the restricted area. This part is for laid back foodie things. I'm all about raising my own meat and grow a huge garden with mostly organic methods but lets keep it light here.

Geoff, that was a good write-up but Norm is has a point when asking us to keeping things light.  Plenty of places on the internet to find out that we humans struggle with difficult issues.

I am looking for the mindset that has a strong self-reliance ethic that is based on confidence and abundance rather than fear and shortages.  Just think of every family with a garden and some livestock.  How healthy and happy that would help us be.  Where is the vision or ideal that is not based on clenched fists or religion?  If you find that, I want to know about it.

For PNW (Oregon! WA, ID, CA???? ;D) garden seed don't forget Nichols Nursery in Albany, Oregon.  I am putting in a new garden this year.  Too cold to count on much corn here (3000ft elev.).  I can grow broccoli, peas and carrots.  Raw or cooked vegetable equals Yummy!

Norm, you mentioned Gurneys. I think they have the best sweet corn. Bodacious variety is really good. But then they came out with the "Gotta have it" variety. Simply awesome.

Norm

I've grown bodacious and really like it too Kansas. Last year we tried brocade from stokes and it was easily the most vigorous variety I've tried. But like all farmers I'm always looking for one just a little bit better so I'll have to order some of the "gotta have it". Thanks for the tip.

Kansas

4 out of 5 raccoons recommend  "gotta have it". Believe me I know.

Looking at all the snow out on the ground this morning, hard to believe its not far from planting time, at least for peas, radishes and onions. I gotta get with the program.

Norm

Me too, hard to believe that in 45 days we'll be planting field corn.

Come on spring!

We buy a lot of our seedcorn from Jacobsen, I believe their in Lake View Iowa, Norm if you haven't ever tried their sweet corn and can get a hold of some it's worth it.

We have been growing "Honey Select", it is another of the bi-color, triple sweet variety.

Bill thanks for the tip on the honey select. It really shined in the sweet corn field trials from Missouri. I also like that it doesn't have to be isolated from field corn, something that is next to impossible in our area. Who do you buy the seed from?

WH_Conley

Local feed store here. Last year there was a shortage for some reason. They were limited to 25 lbs. One guy had ordered 15 lbs as his yearly order. I wonder how big his corn field is? I grabbed mine real quick. It should be easy to find. If you have any trouble, let me know and I will look here. Due to the weather I didn't get all of mine planted, probably have enough to do this year, if you need any, let me know.

Norm

Thanks Bill I'll check around. They are owned by Syngenta so maybe the local seed dealer can get some.

Norm

Found some at Jung seed to order. I got a couple of pounds to try out and see if it does well in our area. While looking it up I see that Rogers seeds is carrying BT sweet corn now. I'd try some but the hoops they make you jump through wasn't worth it although ear worms are a real problem in our area.
