If there is one good thing that comes out of the Westboro group picketing funerals of the fallen, its the Patriot Riders. I don't think they would exist if it wasn't for Fred. And the sight of that many motorcycles keeping between the funeral and Fred, that's one powerful thing to see.

If I hadn't swerved that time many years ago when Fred stepped off the curb in Topeka, we wouldn't have to be having this conversation.

Now we find out the Westboro group picketing is Kansas's fault. :o :( :D

I just heard a discussion on talk radio on my way back from the dentist that the Westboro church is picketed every Sunday.  I can't vouch for the veracity of that statement, but, if it's true, that fact doesn't get much air time, does it?

OK, this is the USA and we are ingrained that everything that goes wrong has someone to blame.  I now also join in blaming Kansas.

Guess I need to take full responsibility. Many years ago, back in my firewood days, I was delivering firewood one Sunday morning to a house across from Gage Park in Topeka. At that time they were just starting all their picketing. They were there because gay men were hooking up at the park. I unloaded a half load from at the house and swung out heading south on Gage Blvd. I didn't really even know who he was then. I swung into the lane next to the curb. He had a picket sign and stepped off the curb. I simply swerved around him. He shouted something at me. All I remember thinking is "damned idiot". I had a lot of deliveries that day and didn't think anything more about it. Later on I realized who he was.

That's what I'm talking about! Every time they start the yelling the bikes rev up. Bikes are positioned so that the exhaust faces the church group. Normally we ring the family. Not much is louder than a couple hundred Harley's at the same time.

The Patriot Guard Riders are very organized. An alert will go out and there will be bikes waiting to escort from the airport every step of the way to internment . Families have requested that the coffin flags be escorted cross country on the back of a bike or from internment  where ever.

Additionally,  In my opinion they alone have saved church member from a good old fashioned butt kicking. Lots of Vet's in the group.

Yup, it's all your fault.  You should not have been such a careful driver.   ::)

There was a bad house fire in the county north of me last week and the funeral for 7 little kids is today. The local TV station said that the Westboro group would be  picketing. The local Bikers are planning to be in the area in case they are needed but the locals ask them to stay away. It is a mountainous wooded redneck area and I suspect the backhoes have been in the wood digging holes.
The last I heard they had already raised $50000.00 to rebuild the home and the local church community had already showed up and removed there burned home

If it is true that Westboro is planning to exploit that tragedy, then it is my opinion that their quest has escalated to the point that it could be called Terrorism.  I'm not quite there yet, but I am rapidly reaching the point where I would condone their elimination from Society. >:(

I would suggest a $5.00 maximum mandatory fine for injuring ( or worse) anyone protesting at a funeral. >:(

I think anytime one of these folks from westboro church has a funeral, every family member of every funeral they protested against should show up for the westboro funeral, trouble is the rest of us are above that and couldn't stoop to that level.  They have freedom of speech same as I do, but really, at funerals, these people make PETA look good.  I've mentioned before that we lost a close neighbor in Iraq, and the day of his funeral there were several thousand people lining the road to the gravesite waving flags and paying respects as the procession went by.  The Patriot Riders were not needed, thank God, had they been needed I know they would have been there but the nice thing about small towns is if the westboros had showed up the only difference that family might have noticed was a few hundred less of us standing along the highway, businness would have been taken cared of.  It plain and simply should not be tolerated, they can spew all they want, anywhere they want, but NOT at funerals.

Why were they protesting this funeral?
