I've been on the lookout for a powerful and accurate grinder for sharpening the blades on my Peterson 10" WPF mill. The 12V factory supplied grinder is ok for mobile use, but it takes a long time to grind the initial profile on replaced tips.  Since I have two blades awaiting retipping, it's a good time for me to find a faster, more accurate system.

I was resigned to having to make something, but today I stumbled across a company out of Petersburg Indiana - Jones Saw Tools - that sells a 120 volt grinding system that uses a portable drill to power it.  I know that an electric drill can provide a great deal more torque than what I currently have.

The Jones Grinder is a universal type of system that is advertised to work on both headsaws as well as edger saws (which are similar to my Peterson's blade), and it has an optional diamond wheel for sharpening carbide tips.  It appears to be well machined and precise, so I went ahead and ordered one.

I'll let y'all know how I like it.  According to Mr. Jones, several other Peterson and Lucas owners have purchased units from him in the past.  If you want to follow up directly, their number is 812-354-6981.

Jeff - I also recommended that Mr. Jones join the FF, so you may be getting some correspondence from either him or his wife.

Jockey makes a saw grinder, and is sold by Menominee.  The small one fits 12" to 48" saws.

Andrus also makes an electric grinder.  That's what I've been using on my vertical edger.  That one I got from a local saw shop.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Ron, thanks for the info.

It will be interesting for me to review how stong and accurate the Jones grinding system is.  A quick price check indicates that the Jones product - that includes a diamond stone - costs less than the Jockey or Andrus systems without the diamond stone.  It's always nice to conserve funds (especially on some U.S. Mgf equipment), but at the end of the day I'm interested in speed and accuracy.

Hopefully I get lucky....  I'll keep y'all updated.
