My brother-in-law who has a tree service company purchased a couple trucks from a power company auction. They were pretty good quality rigs which are still in service after a number of years of his still using them. The bucket truck he got is the highest bucket in the area so he gets a lot of the higher specialty jobs with it.

I don't know what he paid for them though, but they must have been worth whatever he paid.

Most times trucks are sold because of the age, not necessarily for mechanical issues.  I've seen very well kept trucks traded in.  Check them out.  If it is obvious that it has been recently used, chances are very good that everything is at least working.

I had a friend who was look for a bucket truck. He talk to some of the people that work for the telephone Company. Someone told him about one that they was taking out of service because a new one was coming in. He all talk to the driver and found out every thing that was wrong with the truck. It had an oil leak and look kind of rough but the driver told him which hose it was. They told him who to see about buying it. He got it for the price of what the truck would have sold for. After a good wash job and a new hose it look like new. That something to think about.
