Chased in by rain

Hi everybody. This has been a frustrating morning. This morning was cloudy and damp. I went out to the mill early (5:30), uncovered the mill and started sawing an oak log. It started raining, first light then hard. I covered the mill and went inside and made a cup of tea. It stopped raining. I finished my tea quickly and went out to the mill, uncovered it and sawed two boards and then it started pouring. I covered the mill and went inside and made a pot of coffee. As soon as I sat down with my coffee it stopped raining. I gulped down my coffee and went out to the mill, uncovered it and sawed a few boards and it started pouring again.MAN! >:(

Now I'm inside sitting with my computer and guess what- it stopped raining. smiley_whacko

Sounds like Mother Nature is messin with you.  ;) You'll have to teach her a lesson and get you a little shelter built over your mill.  8)

No rain here but it is HOT

It did finally stop long enough this afternoon for me to finish that log.

I have thought of putting up some kind of roof over the mill. I wouldn't want to put it in a shed, just a roof to keep the rain and sun off it and me. I think I'd have a problem breathing in the dust in an enclosed space.

Two words -- "Rain Gear".

If I quit sawing every time it rained, I'd be out of business.

Cutts,just a simple open sided shed high enough so exhaust and dust will be a minor problem. It will add years to the life of your mill,and keep the sun and rain off the old fella running it.Some days it just pays to quit and do something else.Nice old new england barn,would like to see a photo of it. Frank C.

Brucer, logging and sawing is a hobby for me. I don't count on it for my income, so I don't have to saw in the rain. However, I really enjoy sawing lumber and was not happy with Mother Nature yesterday.

Frank, barns I have a plenty. A big old hay barn built in 1823, hand hewn post and beam with attached sheds. A long low dairy barn built in the 1920s, 180' long and 36' wide, and a low barn 100' long and 20' wide. It's nice to have the the inside space for lumber and equiptment etc., but it's almost impossible to maintain the buildings. Roofing is my main concern and I have been working on that. I'll try to get some pics on here later.

We got rained off the mill yesterday!  >:(

Rain at the mill makes for danger!  If everything is wet, it's slippery and dangerous!

The ground, the mill, the logs, the peavey's & cant hooks, everything's wet!

We sat in the truck about 45 min. to 1 hr and then said "we're out of here!

Had some odd jobs around the house and at camp so it wasn't a total loss!

Then about 2 hours after leaving the mill, it quit raining and another hour later, the sun was shining!

I usually go by what's going on at the house.  Some days working in the freezing rain or blistering sun is just better that whatever is going on at home:)
