I wonder if it would be practical to anneal and reharden the teeth of used bands before they develop cracks from work hardning. An induction setup the band passes through that would quench the tooth tips and relieve stress in the band body. Frank C.

Most likey would cost more than a new blade.  Steve

Seems to me out of all the costs of a bandmill and sawing, per board foot basis the costs become inconsequential. If you get 4000 bd foot out of a band, thinking an LT70 band is around 37 dollars, thats around 1 cent a board foot. Even if you get a few more sharpenings that only lowers it a quarter cent. If you only get 2000 feet, that still puts it a little less than 2 cents a board ft. It is, to me, one of the lowest costs is blades. I don't think it would be worth chasing, unless you could somehow improve the band beyond what it was when you bought it.

Bands are simply a disposable part of the business.  When one breaks, I know that it's life contributed to my success.  RIP.

 :-\ :-\ :-\  But was that the band's fault  ???

Sorry, I have done it too.  Usually with a brand new band and an audience watching.   :-\
