Hey guys.  I finally got my MS460, was supposed to get it a few weeks ago but I couldn't find the time.  I love it!  I am glad I got it.  I haven't used on a real big job yet but seems to run excellent and cuts like a dream.  I got a 24" bar on it with a Stihl RS chain.  Have a question though.  I heard somewhere if you put a double-port muffler on the MS460 that it is comparable in hp to the MS660.  Is this true?  Pretty cool if it is.  If so, where would I find one.  Thanks guys.

Magic,

Call John Walker and get yourself Walkerized!!  I had one of his mufflers on my now stolen 046, my new completely Walkerized MS460 is due here any time.....
Have fun with your MS 460 and be safe!!!

Stihl has a dual port cover that fits on the 440 and 460, I don't think it will give it the legs of a 066, but it will help. I have one on my 440. Stihl p/n 1128-140-0801.

Thanks CWS, can you tell a difference with the new muffler.  How much was it?  If you don't mind me asking.

CWS

The dual port cover allowed the 440 to cut with a (stock at the time) 2171/372, it had been a touch slower, but not enough to get antsy about. The main reason I did it was that it allows the saw to breathe, and run cooler, which will help the saw last longer. I've been told that the 440 with a dual port will cut with a 460, but I can't honestly say if it's true, never tried it.
The part will set you back about 20 bucks or so.

Hey Scott, do you know if the stihl double port muffler is the same muffler that you can purchase from the walkers in canada.  They say their mufflers can give you a 1/2 more hp and keep your saw running about 20F cooler.  I was just curious.  Their mufflers run about $30, but I think that is Canadian money.  Thanks

If I remember correctly the $30 price tag on the dual port muffler from John Walker is the canadian currency not american. I am working on getting a dual port muffler and clutch cover for my Jonsered 670 Champ from him. I'm also working on getting a piston ported and polished engine block for the same saw.
Let there be saws for all mankind!

It is NOT the Stihl double port muffler, it is a MODIFIED stock Stihl muffler, tuned by Walker.

Wear your ear protection ;D

Do you need to make any adjustments to the saw after you put on the new muffler?

Captain

Dozer or Dennis could tell you better, but I did richen up the high speed mixture (only resulted in about a quarter turn) to limit the RPMs slightly.  No ill effects with plug fouling, etc. and I always ran a high quality mix at 50:1.
