I have worked with my dad for 13 years now. And withen the last year and a half  i put in my own pine post peeling yard and have been working on my own. I have been buying pine from him off and on. Recently i moved my circle mill over to his place and was cutting a patch of oak sawlogs. He was running the mill headsawing while i ran the woods. He was offerd a job around a week ago to go and headsaw for another guy and he was willing to pay him a good deal of money. Dad has kind of been wanting to get out of logging for awhile so he took the job. Also i have been wanting to take over his equipment for awhile anyways. So now i have to  finish this oak job up and get back on a pine job i have just got. I have decided to just sell the logs to anoother sawmiller i know. The sawmiller offered me 20 cents a foot for everything and thats him picking up the logs. This job is alot of soft wood thats alot of pallet wood and i was only getting 26 cents a foot for pallet squares. i have cut my labor down to me running the skidder and one other guy running the saw falling the trees. Today we did around 8 thousand foot or so. So not to bad of a day beings we got a late start and had a hose bust on the skidder.

The equipment i am getting is a 221 3 wheel hydroax with a shear head. A 648E john deere grapple skidder. And a 210B prentice knuckle boom. With a ctr delimber on it.

I am going to try and not put my knuckle boom on the next pine job i am moving to though.  I have a few guys that haul in wood to me that i am thinking of teaming up with. I am going to cut the trees down with my cutter and then skid the in and back them thru my delimbing gate and pile the wood up. Then i am going to let them bunk up  the wood and load it and haul it to the mill on their trucks. I am just going to split what the loads bring. As much wood i can cut and skid in 2 days should keep them busy bunk for 4  to 5 days. That puts me back at the post yard peeling till they catch up to me out in the woods. I am hopeing to make more money doing this and be able to work alot more steady.

Well we ran into a snag on hauling out the wood yesterday morning. They brought in the ten wheeler with the knuckle boom on it. But behind it was the truck and trailer. The snag was there was one bend in the road that was a little sharp for the trailer.  But it made it in to the landing. It got loaded putting on 2 bunks of doubles logs around 18 foot long. The truck could not make the bend on the way out. i tryed to use the skidder and make the road wider be for the bend so he could make a bigger swing but no go. Still to much. so ended up takeing the ten wheeler up the road and unloading the back bunk on it. Then i had to grad the trailer pick it up with the skidder and move it over so the semi could make the bend and get reloaded. What a morning it was. Now we are just hauling out on the ten wheeler about 5 miles and loading up the trailer. Got out 4 big loads around 16 thousand feet. And alot of hauling left to do. We have the job done cutting and skidding now but have to wait till all is hauled out so we can clean up the landind.

Plus dad thinks he will quit headsawing for the other guy and come run his equipment again already. I guess that he is thinking this because he seen what me and my guy did this week.
