Hello every one. I have 2 band mill blades. These blades are getting dull and I hate to throw them out. Is there a way that I can sharping them manually by using file the saw way we sharpie chain saw chain or I have to have the sharpener.

Yes, you can sharpen them with a file, just like the old folks did their cross cut saws.
just follow the same angle. A round file can be used for the gullet and you can
put the blade in a vise and use a flat point punch and knock a little set in them.
Better than throwing them away.

I've tried to touch up a blade or two with a file before I got our sharpener setup.  I found the Wood-Mizer Double-Hards too hard to sharpen with the files I had on hand.  Too hard as in the teeth are harder than the file. Maybe a new file with fine teeth would work or work better.

Some guys have rigged up a grinder using a radial arm saw as the main machine.  I don't remember who it was or where it was.  Maybe someone else does.

I didn't think about the blades being harder than the file. I had read of
some who have used a file on them. I suppose they were sharpening
softer blades.

Larry made a video of sharpening them on a bench grinder, however I know you might not have access to one of those either.

Alsayyed, do you have access to a dremel tool?  Or maybe a pneumatic die grinder?  With stone bits for it, like come in the cheap kits?  I think you could sharpen a band with those stone tools.  It would be far from perfect, but it would certainly be better than nothing!

thank you for your reply. i have electric Metabo grinder. good grinder but do not know the wheel size for sharpining. i can  order ithe wheel if you can tell the size or i can look here. regarding dremel i have small one. but not enough for sharping. i think the electric grinder or drill might be fine. but like i said i need to know the wheel size.

Hello Alsayyed. You can do it with the Metabo, but it is very difficult to gget a consistantly even grind. Go with a very light touch. You might be better off ttrying to find some diamond sharpeners forthe dremel like the type used to sharpen chainsaw blades. It will be slow going but you will have a little better control doing it manually.

I thought you would be out on the beaches right now. Isn't it camping season in Qatar right now?
