I've been using a very expensive Pinnacle video editing software for years but it will not work on my new computers.  I did a comparison of the software available today and Cyberlink Power Director gets rave reviews and is cheap.  I can't believe my $600 software can be replaced by a $50 version by Cyberlink.  Is there anything in Windows 7 that allows me to capture, play and export video from my digital video camera?  Suggestions on software?
Thanks,
Quinton

I'm not sure if this will work for a non-subscriber of Windows Secrets but here is a link that tells you how to run XP software in Windows 7.

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

Right click on the program icon (not a shortcut to it) and select properties. Click on the compatibility tab at the top of the screen, check the box by "Run in compatibility mode",  and select which OS the program ran on before (ie XP Service pack 2). That should work for you.

The video editing software is not built into Win7, but it often comes bundled with your camera or DVD writer hardware. Check the disc that came with the camera. Often they come bundled with an OEM version of that Cyberlink software, or something similar.

And yes I can believe that current $50 software is probably as good as the $500 stuff from a few years back. The expensive software not does even MORE...
