Tom

I was invited to eat breakfast at Tommy's in the "one-tree house".  You'll have to search for the thread, I can't find it right now.

I got up at 5:00am this morning to get out from under foot of my wife and left for St. George.  I got there at about a quarter til seven and the sun was just coming over the trees

The smoke was coming from the chimney and had the still air behind the house heavy with the smell of wood and cooking food.  I went inside and it was just me and Tommy.  He was cooking biscuits, sausage and bacon.  I drew a cup of coffee from the pot and sat down to visit. Tommy was his old jovial self and laughed and talked and laughed and talked some more.  I never have to contribute too much to the conversation when Tommy is in the room.

Yep, it's a wood stove and the biscuits were wonderful.

David, Yesterday's customer that I finished today by noon, arrived and began to make a dish of potatoes covered with ground sausage.  Tommy put it in the oven of the stove and later sprinkled some cheese over it.  We had that dish, Grits, bacon, Big links of country sausage, Cat-head Biscuits and superb eggs cooked by Bill.  We drained the coffee pot, finished with biscuits covered with copious amounts of home-made cane syrup and were gone to start the day about 9:00am.

I'm invited anytime I'm in the neighborhood.  This was a light attendance.  There are some real "heavy weights" that usually attend.

The conversation was about everybody's week, what was happening with the sawmill (they all know of it and it was the center of attraction), a funeral that was taking place this morning and the preacher's bout with a heart-attack the day before yesterday.  He's back home and doing fine, it was reported.

It's a Man Thing.  One woman came with her husband because they were going to the funeral but she stayed inside of the house with Tommy's wife and Tommy sent them a Breakfast by courier, his young nephew.

I had a grand time.

I moved the mill at noon to St. George and began Tommy's job of wide boards for the siding of the old house.

We were back in the little one-tree house at 1:00 again for dinner.  The church had a chicken day and had prepared a meal for all the working farmers as they do about once a month.  We had two pieces of fried chicken, a roll, green beans, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, a slice of pound cake and lots of iced tea.  Tommy got out his stash of pickled peppers and it was quite enjoyable.

We actually got a fair amount of wood sawed, probably 800 feet or so and I'm looking forward to work in the morning.

Tommy beat me off the site at about 6:15 this evening on his "new to him" Case 4wd extend-a-hoe.  The sun was going down fast and was a red ball already beneath the trees.

I'll bet he beats be back on site in the  morning too. ;D :D
