Wireing a magnetic switch in my tractor

Hi All,

I had to order a new Magnetic switch for my tractor (Bolens Iseki, 24hp Diesel). And I went to wire it up and forgot which wire went were! I was wondering if anybody could tell me what I'm doing wrong. I've tried every combination I can think of with what I've got to work with. The hook up in the picture below works... sort of. It sparks and makes a funny noise but it started up. Almost like I hot wired it or something though. Just doesn't seem right. I've got wires 1 and 2 both on terminal one (see photo). Any advice?

one large stud batt cable plus alt other large stud goes to starter small screw goes to key or push button  push the button lets power go to other stud. next time take pics before you take it apart sometimes it helps
