Hey all you circular mill operators out there.  I have once again found myself in a bind...  I need new shanks and bits for our saw.  The place where we normally buy them are no longer handling these parts.  The blade is a "B" width and we have 3/8" teeth in the shanks.  I am looking to purchase teeth but will need shanks next tooth change.  I don't have any clue as to where to purchase these any more anywhere in Saskatchewan. Where do you rednecks and canucks purchase these????

Brad, Go over to the left and click on Menominee saw. They handle everything you need and they can certainly help. Talk to Peach, let him know the forum sent you and he should be able to help you out. In fact I'm sure of it.

Thanks Jeff.   I looked on their sight but will have to phone Peach at some point
I don't really have the time to phone right now as my parts for the baler should be here any time.  Once they are here I have to fix it and get baling.  There is over 1000 square bales worth of hay waiting to be baled before it rains.

Thanks for the tip on Menominee Saw, I just spoke with Roseanne to order some bits. Been a long time, boy have they gone up in price!!

Yea, we had to start treating them like all other valuables around the mill when they started to come up missing out of the desk in the break room. We had a few slippery types that sold us logs, but also had little mills and would sell us lumber. I had a good idea where the Teeth were going so I took to locking them up like they were cash.  You can figure just one tooth is like having a dollar and change.

I thought Coon was making snow bales til I checked the date  ;) ;D

Nope.  Those snow bales are kinda hard toput through the baler.  I also have trouble with the twines cutting through the snow.  Guess I got too much tension on the knotters yet. :D :D :D :D

Hi Jeff, Thank you for the Menominee Saw referral for Brad. I have been searching all over the internet for bits for some time without success. I have not ordered new bits for a few years and my old source has disappeared.  I sent Menominee Saw an Email requesting:
1Box of No.3 Bits,  3 X  8/9 X 17/64 or 3 X  8/9 X 9/32 Also:48 No.3 shanks 3X8.
I do hope to hear from them but in case I don't or they don't have those bits, I would like to hear from anyone regarding other sources for bits and shanks.
I saw some postings on FF with pictures of bits and shanks which reminded me that I have some nice glossy Pacific/Hoe informational brochures/catalogs with very clear pictures and descriptions of all types of bits and shanks. I can mail it or scan it and post it if this is of interest.

Thanks again,
Rob

If you don't hear back from them. give them a call. They are either going to be your best source, or they will tell you where the best source will be.  Welcome.

Welcome aboard Honders. It's nice to hear from another round sawblade guy.

I get all my supplies from  B.H. Payne in East Point, Ga. I'm sure they can furnish anthing you might need.

I bought a new 52" blade there last year. Really nice folks to deal with.

The reason this forum continues to exist so people can come here for help, is the sponsors. Menominee Saw is a sponsor and has been for a long time.

Sorry Jeff, I'm not trying to buck the system here. Just trying to help....

I'd like to talk Terry Payne into being a sponsor here if he would be welcome.

All our sponsors are good reliable folks and that they sponsor us speeks volumes. When your a sawyer a good saw smith is your best friend and will bail your bippie out when you have saw problems. Its only fair to buy your bits and shanks from your hammersmith. You don't go to the local garage and bring your own parts from walmart. There are fewer and fewer smiths and soon we may all have to ship our saws for work.I make an appointment and drive for six hours then visit wile my saw is being tensioned and it comes home with me.Theirs a rumor that sometimes you can find bits and shanks at flea markets around Fitchburg ma. I went thru my storage unit last summer because water got in my unit and ruined some of my stuff. Actually, I think my blades are ruined. :(
I dried these out and sprayed oil on the saw but the rust had already pitted the blade.
It's ironic the blade would have been better left out in the elements.

Ron Wenrich

Rusted blades work just fine.  Don't throw it out because of rust.  The one I'm running now has some rust spots on it.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Jeff

Yep, we had a saw that was pitted pretty good. It wasn't our best saw, but it worked in a pinch.

That makes me feel a little better.
It was both my blades.  I have to find the camera card that has pictures of them.  I was really sick over it.
