Sap being down in the winter is an old wives tale. Moisture content is approximately the same year round.  However, in the winter the cambium is not in the active "growth" stage and trees cut in the winter do tend to hold their bark much better.

Ain't got a clue about the 'sap being down in the Winter', but I know that black locust posties cut in the Winter will last 40-50 years and ones cut otherwise will last 2-5 years...........leastwise, around 'here'.  Have cut a few thousand...or more.....and stuck 'em in the ground, way back when.

Well I made a sale today. I sold the SYCAMORE bench at 5 pm today for $400.00. I had it on "DAVID'S LIST" for $500.00 and let it go to the nice folks for 4 bills.

That's pretty good without having to load it and go to a flee market or some where else and try to sell it.
The older I get I wish my body could Re-Gen.

It's one thing to build 'em, but can ya sell 'em??

I had that problem back when I actually had time to turn bowls. One day I realized I had all these nice bowls, but I wasn't making any money!

A fine job and a beautiful natural edged, thick slab bench!

Yep, I can sell 'em. Moral of the story......don't turn bowls, build benches.  ;D

I have 2 friends. Both are Old Timers. They turn bowls and round jewelry boxes. They take their work to festivals, tractor shows, Fire Dept. BBQ's......etc.......They make a killing.
