Spruce Bunny  was the first to hit the nail on the head with the scraper, good job. I scraped down the preimeter of a LARGE walnut table, bringing the edge boards (4" wide) down to the level of the veneered "infill"

I will throw a few other names out there which have been great sand paper values (read:long lasting professional grade), Carborundum, and Klingspor. I am currently buying Klingspor from a commercial regional rep. He brings it to my door , and has lots of other stuff (used tools, and new Dynabrade sanders). He always has trade in tools, LOTS of deals. Just bought two Metabo grinders real reasonable.

Jake, if you ever start using handplanes and scrapers, you will never use another piece of sandpaper again........that is until you need to sharper your blades.   ;D

I am currently using a batch of Mirka paper, have gotten great life out of it.

Just a few other notes for those who may not know.......I use both PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) and hook and loop. Depends on what my task is, but generally the hook and loop is a few cents more a pad, but the "air cushion" behind keeps your paper running cooler and lasting longer. Heat build up is your enemy when it come to making paper last. Also, I use emory backed paper for hewn and reclaimed timber snading. It lasts and lasts when the paper backed stuff will tear right thru.

I always used emery on the initial sanding of my turnings. But I can't get it locally any more because as I said earlier the stores around here are now catering to the Chinese economy.  ::)

has anyone used industrialabrasives.com they have hook by the yard. that seems like a good way to buy to make lathe sanding disc's. just wondering if its good quality

Larry

I've been buying RhynoGrip ROS discs from them.  They are as good or better than Klingspor or Mirka at a cheaper price.  It seems they are a day or two slower shipping than Klingspor so allow a couple days extra.

As soon as my belt supply gets low I'm going to give there belts a try.  They have a pretty good price on the 2 X 72's.  Didn't look at the bigger belts as its going to be awhile till I get low on them.

August Fine Woodworking showed up in the mail today.  Four page article on sharpening and using the scraper.  Good way to learn about them.  Of course learning from somebody that has experience would be better.

I'll probably learn scrapers the same way I learn everything. The hard way.
