Get everything repaired ? Cut and skidded till ten thirty seen that a fitting was leaking on the grapple. Came home and ate dinner went to the shop and checked all the fluid levels on the truck only to find the drivers side rear tandem oil seal was leaking and the brake shoe looked oil soaked. When the sun sets tonight I will fix the grapple leak but the wheel seal Iam not sure about but will have to get on it before the P.U.C.O. see its  ::)

I think theres always something to fix. I replaced the seals on the back of the transmission, output shaft for the winch, on the skidder last wednesday. This summer seams to be tough on equipment with the high temps. Tomorrow we are suppose to be in the high 90's and humid. Oil gets real thin at them temps. It pays to run a good quality oil.

I'm running 15w40 rotella in my old slant 6, keep oil pressure at 50psi and I am happy with that. I am leery of anything thinner at these temps.

I think it is the inevitable that if you run anything but brand new gear you are always replacing, repairing or remanufacturing something.  Last week we broke the tracks apart on the harvester to beef up the slides to get a few more months out of the chains.  Found some broken bolts in a couple of idlers.  Several days later and numerous drill bits we should be going again sometime tomorrow.  I hate mechanic work but it is a necessary evil when you run gear.  Sometimes I feel like it is a good thing I like beer  ;D

Another thing that really gets to me with respect to repair work is the discrepancy in parts pricing.  Picked up 2 blower motors from a air conditioning repair shop for the forwarder today.   They charged me $170 each.  Thought it seemed a little high so called around as I was driving back to the woods.  Found them for $49 a piece at an auto parts store.

Good point Ken. It's cheaper to let your fingers do the walking or driving. I had some conveyor belt split and clipped and asked what had change that it was so expensive this time? When I went back to pick up my order the guy from the back of the office said he had over heard the conversation and wasn't satisfied with the answer and presented me with a lower bill. Thaked me for my loyalty and asked me to come again. The new cost was more in line with what i thought it should have cost. 45.00 dollars left in my pocket looks better any way you look at it.
