We went on a foliage drive and checked out a few things. My parents and me would drive across the bridge every few years and let me walk on it as a car was driving on it.This is a wire bridge in North New Portland Maine,a very small town.It does move quite a bit, kinda acts like a small wave on a lake and will move a little from side to side. The part you drive on is made out of wood and the towers are too.
This a view after we went across it. It is only wide enough for one car at a time.Note the steel cables.

This is the size of the cable and it's anchor point. My hat is for size.

A link to tell more about the bridge.

If you do read the link Hallowell is at least 1½ hours away by car. Quite a distance to haul 2 big cables on so called roads the way they was than.

We have many of these up in the mountains, locally referred to as "Swinging Bridges". None are for car travel, though. Just for walking across to reach the house on the other side of the river or creek.
Nice pictures. :)
