I dont think Ive seen one out in the woods in a LONG time up north here in Ohio.   I have some as pets as a kid raise them for a while and then let them go out in the woods.   rescued a lot off the road as a kid too.   I think that was probably the last one I had seen was to move it off the road probably over 15~20 years ago...   I would like to see some on my place but so far none.   I have seen some Leopard Frogs, something I had been told had gone extinct in our area 20 years ago.   

I think the area I'm in everyone has brush hogged down the trails woods and grass lands so much they have been wiped out.   I know i watch for things when mowing but a small box turtle would be a REAL easy to miss.

In New Zealand, we have neither turtles nor snakes, I don't miss the snakes but I sure used to love the turtles in Canada when I was a kid and wouldn't mind if we had them here.
