We had a jeep like that forward cab at a service station I worked at, and it was a project from day one to keep it running good.

But fun  8) to drive, and the boss had to pay for keeping it going. Ok by me.  ;D

Oh, you guys are just jealous because you don't have an ez boardwalk jr. Everybody knows they make the best mill. And Toyota makes the best trucks. Geeze fellas.  8)

Misfit

You run across all kinds of them in the biker world, especially the weekend warriors with the prerequisite logoed t-shirt, leather vest, do-rag and 2 day stubble so they look bad-a$$....but I'm not mentioning any brand names to avoid insulting anyone on here.
My usual comeback to the "why are you riding some jap-crap" comment was "I'm not very mechanically inclined so I need a bike that won't break down on me."
I am neither a Philopolemic Blatherskite nor a Bloviating, Sialoquent Blatteroon.

I like that subtle insult, misfit :D That's how I often deal with those types, if I have my wits about me ::)

I am building a Veggie Shack, which is still not done and I can't count the people that have told me they would have that done by now. Than they turn around and say how great the grounds look, about 6 acres worth, and how good my garden look. I don't bother saying the hired man does a great job, don't he. ::) No sense in saying I have to cut the trees down and do the sawing too. I don't mind a bit,but some just understand how things are in my little world.

I haven't been in the "Sawyer Business" long. About a week to be exact, but the sawyers that I've met in person have been more than helpful, and friendly. Not to mention all the great folks here.

I have a brother that has "The Jerk Thing" nailed. No one can do it, say it, have it, or see it, better than him. Once it gets to that point in a conversation, I just change the subject, or walk away. Just a waste of time to argue. I have better things to do. Like mill some beautiful oak logs.  :)

On the memories.  ::)  I had a boss like that too. He could go to the bathroom on the floor and than tell you why his is better than yours.  ::)

I think that jerk had "MILL ENVY"  or some kinda envy.

Besides I bought my mill, because it is blue.  No other reason.  it just matches my tractor.

Gee,  I still  have a white truck?  I going to have to change that too.  My wife won't like me buying a blue truck.

We bought the old Woodmizer not because of one-upmanship, but just due to a cold, calculated business decision. I knew we could bank on the company service, as well as the hundreds of experienced WM owners on the FF to help us figure out any issues. So far, batting 100.  :) Had that been the case for sure, with another brand, in my mind, it might have been another brand I got. There are things about the WM LT-40 that I don't really care for, but I know I have a quality piece of equipment to work with, and a deep bench of technical support! But no one out there is less of a man or woman for running something else, I enjoy seeing the rainbow of equipment that's out there. I enjoy seeing the inventiveness of the carious minds who design things for us to use, and so everyone's a winner if they have a good reason for what they do.  :)

"Boy does that style Jeep bring back some memories!"
I was a firefighter in our city and we had one of those Jeeps in the department. It spent most of its years as an Ansul dry powder extinguisher truck at the airport. It was very top heavy and dangerous to drive at any speed so they took it out of service and took all the heavy Ansul equipment off of it and made a brush truck out of it for a few years by putting chainsaws, fire axes, shovels, rakes and water bladder bags in the back. We never used it much because it was a 3 speed and it was geared very low which made it slow out on the highway. 45 was about as fast as you wanted to go. I don't think it had 50 thousand miles on it. It was in mint condition and we loved to take it out and drive it around town once a month to keep the battery charged and everything operable on it.
We would sometimes use it to go to other stations for training. It only had 2 seats. The engine was in a compartment between the driver and passenger. It had a manual choke which was a small chrome knob at the front of the engine compartment on the driver's side.
If you had never driven it then you were in for a treat!  ;D  ;D
We would always get the new assigned rookie at the station to go out with one of the veteran Jeep drivers. We would tell the rookie that this was the Chief's favorite fire vehicle and he should drive this fine piece of equipment when we had enough men at the station and he could take it out.
They all jumped at the chance when that day would come. move_it
You would take them out and let them get used to shifting the gears and the feel of driving it. Just when they thought that they were having fun and had everything under control you would start in on them. We would take them to an area in town that did not have much traffic but had some hills. Just as they would be starting up a hill, with your left arm resting on the engine compartment and your hand on the choke knob, you would slowly begin to pull it up.
The farther up the hill they would go, the more you pulled the knob.
Then the engine would die.
They would get the engine started again and start back up the hill. You would do it again. After repeated attempts of trying to concur the hill you would tell them that they have done something to the Chiefs Jeep.
The sweat would begin to pour. You would tell them that you were going to have to get on the radio and call for the hook and the chief is not going to like this.
"How long is your probationary period?" You would ask them.  smiley_crying
After a few minutes of watching them think their firefighting career had just tanked, you tell them what you did and head back to the station laughing. lol
The city was going to put the Jeep in an auction one year. It never showed up and was never seen again.   smiley_headscratch

I don't mind people telling me that their .......... is better with real reasons.

The one I dislike the most is the people that will ask you a question to which they are pretty sure that you don't know the answer then give you the stare with the "well are you going to answer the question" look, then comes the "I'm superior look" along with the answer in the "your wasting my time " tone of voice.

I was at a annual tourism association meeting years ago where the new guy that was hired to do the business end of things got up to make a speech, one of the first things he did was ask if any one knew how many tourism dollars had been taken in in Nova Scotia the previous year, not expecting a answer and looking kind of smug until I blurted out "one billion, one hundred and forty two million........." I guess he didn't get to be the smart a$$ that day it was me.

1woodguy

I have a BIL who for years argued with me about everything his dad was the same way
Anymore just tell him the reason I don't do whatever it is like he does is cause I ain't as bright as him
Or I need to buy whatever like his cause it's the only good one
I reply ain't rich like you but if you honestly think that's what I should be using go ahead and buy me one and will try it out

Experience is a rough teacher first you get the test later comes the lesson!

Okrafarmer

1woodguy, great answers!  :D

Some more good ways of dealing with it can be:
"You are so right. I guess I'm just dumb."
"Well, I'm taking a smartness class, and when I graduate, I will make better decisions"
"If I didn't have a different brand than you, we wouldn't have anything to talk about"
"I'm so glad you managed to point out my deficiencies. I stand corrected."
"Wow, I really appreciate a man who is passionate about his convictions."
"You know, I'll think it over until the next time I need to buy one, and maybe I'll agree by then."
"I'm so glad I have you around to educate me."
"What would I ever do without you to set me straight?"
"I considered your brand, but it just didn't meet my needs."
"I know your brand is better, but I'm really emotionally attached to this one."
