It wasnt the first time i took him but it was the first time that he carrier his own gun. He is not good at spotting animals yet. So i showed him some cutting acorns, advised him on wich way to go and he started creeping over. About half way there he stoped, squats down puts his gun down starts scratching in the ground and hollars for me to come see.
I should tell you that he strips bark for me when i build something liveedge and that he has built and sold some very nice walking canes and other stuff on his own.
When i got over there it was a dead sparkle berry, it was rotted away and had a band of wood that spiraled around the trunk like a barber pole.
The rest of the morning was full of lighter pine tops, odd shaped saplings, root balls, weathered wood in the creek and different kinds of trees.
We didnt kill any animals but he had a good time im sure he will start focusing on the animals in time.

At least he is interested in something beside TV and games.  You did good that way. He may become more interested in building something out of wood than hunting.

He does enjoy building things, we just started steaming bending some pieces and he has an eye for charcter wood. But at the same time he has taken a couple of good messes of squirrels with his pellet gun and a few more with my 22 when we hae gone hunting in the past. He just got distracted, he is developing an eye for unusal shapes. He was not happy when i wouldnt let him take any thing out of the woods.
