Hello
I'm at the stage now where I am placing backing between the logs (6"x8" logs). Gap between the logs is anywhere between 1.5"- 2.25" I am wondering if there is a material some sort of closed foam that is reasonably priced. I was hoping for something about 5.5" wide and 2" thick in a roll, but can't seem to locate anything. I will be using a flexable chinking to close in this spring.

thanks ahead, bic

Foam backer rod, it's available in upto 2" diameter I think, maybe bigger. The other option would be foam pipe wrap. Put either of these in between the logs, then you won't need as much chinking.

That's my thought, but I'm not an expert on log cabins, so I could be telling you wrong.

Here is a link for backer rod.

If you have some space between the inside and outside backer rods, fill it with wool rope.

thanks for the comments gents, I thought that backer rods were more for round log applications, guess not.....it just made more sence to me to have something that would be a little smaller than the log to fill the entire space between the logs, then the thin coat of chinking.

again thanks for the replys
