The only tractor we have left with a loader is a kubota l3000dt. When we bought it, it had pretty bad blow by and it's not getting any better. It's awefully hard to start especially when it's cold out. It's time for a rebuild. I have rebuilt many four wheelers, and a few gasoline v-8s. Never a diesel. Are diesels that much harder to rebuild? My biggest fear is the whole injector pump timing thing.

I've never rebuilt a diesel either but I have an old kubota myself and figured I might look at a repower with a surplus center engine or similar if the need arises.  I'll be following this thread with interest.

Jake, get on the 'Tractor by Net' forum if you're not already.  A lot of good info and some good peeps.  I'm sure there are folks here that can help (not I ;D) but TBN has a LOT of traffic and many of those guys live for all things tractors.  Just an FYI.

Good luck with it!  I dread the thought of splitting my Kubota, would have no earthly idea what I'm doing. :D
