Got mine today .looks like the price of some logs are going up. I like it so I can see what the outher mills pay, how many of you loggers use the sawlog bulletin to see where the best place to sell your logs, :)

I try to stick with one mill, seems to keep them more loyal & I've never been shut off or put on a quota.

I try to deal with one.  His prices and scale are good and best of all so are his checks  ;D :)

I've found its better to develop good relationships with one mill for each market. When things tighten up it really becomes aparent. Who's still able to sell their wood.. Chasing a couple dollars will bite ya in the end.

We don't have many mills in my area so it limits where we can send logs. Plus I don't buy stumpage, I get paid per Mbf and the arrangement is to get the best money we can for the land owner. There are about 8 to 10 different mills or buyers we deal with most of the time but sometimes we do shop around depending on what I am cutting.

I've been with the same mill now for 4 yrs,but I still like to keep track of prices thru out the country.I also watch wallstreet and CME view of markets.Ralph's comments are a read too.

Well I like it so I can keep up with the price on things. Im a small mill and deal with 2 or 3 loggers. so I can see what the going rate is and sweeten the deal to get what I want :D ;D
And they do have things for sale

Gday

Being on both sides of the equasion your spot on with that comment 240b as you re better of to stick with a Mill or buyer as when things do get tight we tend to stick with the ones who stick with us  ;) chasing afew extra dollars or mills trying to keep loggers on low rates when the market is moving upcan cost either alot of money  :) :)

I had a discussion with a larger logging co the other month about that and they are repeatedly asking us to buy wood and i made the observation you never returned my bloody calls when export was running hot and you forgot its the domestic mills that carry you through the tight times and who needs who now  ;)

Consistancy is the key on both sides of the coin same goes for pricing I will generally pay abit more than big mills and take larger mix of logs .

The thing with bulletin pricing is its only relly a guide to what the big mills are paying or getting and what gets posted can vary alot to what is really happening in the market  :)
