No more spell check?

Have ya'll clicked on your spellcheck button lately?  :-/ The service is no longer available, at least with my budget. They want 150 bucks upfront for the first 10,000 uses. Well heck, Kevin would use that up before spring.

I wrote a letter to the outfit. Won't get anywhere but I feel better.

We have been using your free version of spell check for a while now. We are considering  paying for the continued use, but you need to have a better selection of packages and cheaper prices.  We are very wary about sending 150 bucks to your company in this business climate. If you're in such a state that you do not offer the free service to deserving sites such as ours, you may disappear before our site www.forestryforum.com uses its allotted spellchecks.   Our site offers advice to thousands of landowners around the country for free. We have no revenue. You should continue to provide free use to sites like ours on a case by case basis to help advertise your service. If not you will eventually disappear with the other .coms

It was a nice feature and this is the only board I've ever seen with one. Unless there is something else to this, it seems to me it is just a program they've already paid for.  So you would think they would be happy about getting advertisement.  Perhaps this is just the prequel to them going belly up.

Ok here is what we do. Each member send me Two dollars then once every member does that I will send $150.00 to Jeff.

If ya feel like sending me more thats fine to just means I will get a mill quicker ,,oops I mean we will get the spell check back faster yea thats it. Ok as a fail safe just in case a few members don't send me anything everyone else needs to send me 5 dollars each. Any questions you can call me at 555-1212 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I've gotten pretty good at reading in between the lines and interpreting misspellings and typographical errors since I've spent time on Messenger, chats and other forums where the post is irretrievable once sent.  At least we have the option to modify our posts when we see something wrong.  Few other sites have that luxury.

It is beneficial sometimes, especially when you are making a long post or having to do research as you write it, to use your email or Word for the composition. They both have spell checkers and Word will even help with the sentence structure sometimes.

it's nice to have a Spell Check on the site but definitely not critical enough for a "non revenue earning" site like Forestry Forum to expect someone to shell out for it.  Perhaps one day it will be learning lots of money like the other sites that buy those fancy tools and things may be different.

By the way, just a note for some of the newer fellows who have joined us.  There are other Logging, Sawing, Drying, wood sites out there that are comparred to this one.  Folks that compare don't realize that Forestry Forum hasn't been around but a little over a year and the financing comes form the pocket of the Webmaster.  You will notice that there is no advertising, yet.  The other sites that we are compared with are Revenue producing or are supported by large company's or magazines.  Jeff runs this out of his house from a computer on his desk just like we are using.  It's not a big outfit. :D

I think it is a real feather in our cap to be a part of a site that is controlled so much by the members.  We are basically a Tree site but there are so many other subjects covered here that we are fast becoming un-comparable to those others.  I visit them on occasion also, partly because I posted on them long before this site started and partly because I have gotten to where I enjoy comparing our "good"site to their 'good' site, not that I hold any prejudice, you understand. :D :D

Now, there is good information to be gotten on them sometimes but I see so much Childish competition that detracts from their theme where-as we seem to know where to stop, take kidding in stride, don't lambaste other members businesses, equipment or knowledge and actually encourage each other to have a good time.

We don't have Guru's on the top of the hill that need to be catered to.  We do have a lot of knowledge offered if one cares to listen.  I'll bet you could get as good if not better information from the professionals who visit this site as you can from any of the others and you won't even be treated as an underling  ;D.  Now that's quite a benefit.

I visit other sites where trees take a back seat to their primary "woodworking" topics.  Now, you talk about Gurus,  those sites have them for sure.  It seems that  at least 2 out three of the posters already know everything and at least one will waste no time in letting you know it. You can be sat down real hard there.

Then I visit a site that tout's itself as being a tree site, but the traffic is so thin that questions go unanswered for days and seldom is there more than one answer to a question.

Yep, this place is great, and we as members are shaping it as we go.  It is because of the members that we don't put up with the pontification found elsewhere.

Jeff does a good job running the site and designing and upkeeping it.  I hope he makes it big on a commercial basis one day and I will help to make this site something of which he can be proud, as I know will the rest of you.

The old members know, but it's important that the new members understand, that this is a really special place.

Tom every now and then you sure pull one out of the hip pocket. What I mean by that is a truely great post. Well that was one of them!

As for the spell checker, If anyone has read my posts or talked to me on that messenger, knows both my spelling and sentence structure has alot to be desired. So I will miss the spell check it was nice to have at my disposal. But not worth all that pocket change.

Yes Jeff has kicked some serious butt in just over a year. Don't get a big head Jeff. :D But this site sure has picked up some steam and even better is the group of people that post in it. ---Build it and they will come---Isn't that what somone once said?

As far as the gurus I've been to sites like that and you really have to wonder if they are really as smart as they appear. I'm pretty darn smart if I"ve got a few text books in front of me. Maybe I should invest in a couple. Na rather just be me.

Guess any board is only as good as both it's webmaster and the posters. Both must jive and enjoy it or else it will like alot of other .coms will go by the way side. But lemie say thanks Jeff for taking the time to build this place to begin with. One day I'll return the favor. Well maybe. ;)

I, personally, don't miss the spellcheck feature. I never used it, anyway. I prefer to let my spelling stand on it's own merrit.

Easy come easy go, I went to use spell checker the other day and if you folks can put up with my Incorrect spelling, grammar, and thought I can certainly put up with yours. :-[
