strunk57 I'm not one to argue about sawing techniques but I find sawing from the large end to the small end easier.  When dealing with logs larger than your saws throat opening, it's very easy to get jambed up on the far end by sawing from small to large end.  I allways try to make the first cut so that i get at least a 4" board from the second cut so sawing from the small end to the large end can take more time and cause some heartache.  By sawing from the large end i can eleminate the short cuts faster and get the cant to an easily sawable size faster.

Learner, I read that when sawing ERC you want to start from the small end because the blade tends to follow the knots up resulting in uneven lumber. I see your point though.

Think this may be part of the problem, this is on the non-drive side band wheel.

Also had some bad luck AGAIN today, i was trying to set my blade guides and the thread on the left side stripped out, so now i have to re-tap tomorrow, i really dont like this on the norwood mill, i think it is a bad setup, the roller shaft is really loose in its hole and just a bolt against the shaft to hold it in place, i think i may make another support arm that holds the shaft tighter.

On a good note, it is possible to mill some nice wood, i cant wait to get set up right, i have 6 good size ERC to finish, i really love working with cedar and there are a lot of it in my area.
