 I'm mainly stationary. I don't have a roof, 'cause that would make the taxes go up on the property I rent, and the owners don't want that. I mill full time 7 months of the year -- basically from when the snow has melted enough to dig the mill out in the spring until the snow gets to be about 8" deep in the fall.

So I work in the rain.

I have two sets of rain gear and a dozen pairs of gloves. If they all get soaked through before the day is done then it's time to quit.

I keep my site clean -- sawdust shoveled away from the working areas, no off-cuts lying around to trip over. The logs are staged on a couple of 6x6's beside the mill so they can be rolled safely to the loading arms. Everything gets shifted around with the loader so there's no chance of something heavy slipping out of wet gloves. There's no customers helping out (and taking chances).

The rule is, slow and deliberate when it's raining.

Even though I'm surrounded by mountain peaks, I don't saw in thunderstorms.

If I didn't work when it was raining, I wouldn't work very much at all. It's called the Wet Coast for a reason.

rain  i would say no if i can,  but being in the deep south with the heat it will make you look like you've been in the rain , make you wish for the rain to cool you off when you have a 110+ heat index, makes you pray for just a little breeze  ;D, it is brutal, i was actually cutting grass last week and up came a storm heat was pushing 90, said the heck with it continued cutting,no gnats or dust in the rain, throw in some lightning thats when i call it quits  ;D

Back when I first started sawing, I was using my FIL's LT40 Manual mill and the same rule applied, as with my own LT40 Hydraulic mill.

If it raining, shut'r down, a little mist, that's ok but when things really start to get wet, we pull the plug!

Nope, no sawing in the rain for me.  If it is a passing shower and no lightning, we may let it pass and start back, but if we think that there is a chance for lightning, there will be another day.

Here in the South and Texas, rain is almost always accompanied by lightening, especially in the spring, summer and fall. I don't saw when it's lightening...or do any other outdoor activity.  However, I sawed Thursday and Friday for a friend and I would have welcomed a benign rain shower, just to cool me off. I was soaking wet anyway from the heat and very high humidity.

I've spent my entire working life out in the weather. Rain, shine, freezing cold or blistering hot, weekday, weekend, holiday, it's all the same. Drilling rigs do not shut down once a well is spudded. I've been hospitalized twice from getting too hot, been so cold I couldn't even talk and I've worked many more Christmases and Thanksgivings than I've been home for over the past 40 years. Thankfully, there wasn't anyone shooting at me, though.  ;

Sawing is not my livelihood so I might saw in the rain but it would be because I wanted to and not because I had to.

Spent two days working in the wet last week, I agree with other comments, the customers site is well laid out and NOT a complete hazard just keep working with some caution.
Thunder / completely horrible weather, no thanks.

Cheers
