#1&2 WO has gone up 50% in the last few months... at least in the SE region. How is it looking other places?  :-\ :-\

Up on the good white oak. Missouri walnut is supposedly paying good prices on the good stuff. An uptick on good hackberry. Soft maple is languishing. Walnut was reasonably good this winter. Not sure about now. I paid .55 cents for some striaght run red oak, some really good logs, some just pallet. Think I gave 1.00 on some cherry straight run, but there were a bunch of really good ones. I can't remember what we paid exactly  on a load of hard maple, but I believe it was in the 80's.. We got some 14" wide boards by 12 foot, clear as a bell, all white wood out of those hard maple. Those will definitely go on the wine list for a premium price, just not sure where to price them. Ditto with some wide clear cherry.

I have a load coming in of various white oak, including really good ones. Those will cost me a dollar. On that load will be some hickory that I also had to pay a dollar for. Absolute top of the line logs, but that seems way too high. We are going to have to readjust our retail prices.

Prices have been steady here, straight run tie logs, wo, and ro, with mix of other hardwoods, 300/m, stave logs I'm not sure about, they were running up in the 800/m range for awhile, and walnut is up to the log buyer/grader, they can go for a pile or down to 1000/m,  david

Another thing I am seeing is that some mills are offering stupid money on logs above what everyone else is paying just to get their pick of everything. Their efficiency with the logs must be perfect.  :P

SYP is only bringing ~$250 but Red Oak is bringing upward to ~$500.

The property that I lease is being marked for a selective cut.  It was last cut in 1996.

We typically buy it by the ton. Is there any easy conversion from BF to Tonnage ?  ???

You're starting to creep up to the prices I have to pay $600 per thousand (International scale) delivered for red and white oak.  If your log prices continue to rise I may actually be sawing white oak fence boards.   Most of our fence boards around here are trucked in from you folks south of the border.   :)

FWIW I pay $450 per thousand for White Pine and $500 per thousand for White Ash.

Cut and skidded 21 Walnuts over a half mile Saturday before the big rain. Got another 20 or more to cut so will know how good the prices are in a few days here in SW MO  ;D

I asked one of the loggers that brings us some cedar if he was cutting more.  He said one or two more loads and he was cutting the red oak.  Told me he was quoted 90 cents.  You ain't seen nothing yet with the shortage of loggers, lots of standing timber and mills needing wood.

Never heard of red oak selling for that, someone must have a market, just hard to imagine paying that for logs,

You don't know the grade that's quoted.  When I hear quotes, I like to get all the facts.  Usually, someone is giving a bloated number or a quote on a higher grade.

It's like hearing someone is getting $5.50/bf for white oak blocking.  I've gotten that price for some.  But, I haven't gotten it for all the white oak blocking.  Lots of particulars in that price.

Mills that purchase by weight will have their own, customized conversion for tons to BF.  this conversion varies by species and by diameter.

Most hardwood weight scaling is used on logs from a timber sale that the mill purchased.

Green MC% oaks are heavier than northern rock maple and beech. We used 2.75 short ton per cord for 100" long wood, 2 cord per thousand. Your oaks would be around 3.2 short ton per cord. Ball park figures based on 100 ft3 of solid wood in a cord. Some use 85 ft3, which seems too low from my experience. But I guess you have to realize that length of the logs determines a lot in how tight the sticks can be stacked. A nice straight log stacks better than crooked pulp sticks. Anyway, oaks are running around 6300 lbs per 100 ft3 of solid green wood.

Interestingly commodity soft wood is on a down leg.  Normal for this time of year.  Lumber yards have mostly filled there orders for the building season.
To forget one's purpose is the commonest form of stupidity.

Cedarman

Guy just finished bringing the last 2 loads of cedar from the job they are on.  Again he said they are getting 90 cents for very good red oak butt logs and 70 to 80 for good lumber logs.  Words from his mouth.  The mill buying is not too far from here.

cedarman, that makes a lil more sense, good butt logs can bring a premium,  that still is pricey for me, the real trick is having a finish product in the plan.  david
