Today my lunch was a cold can of beans eaten right out of the can. Couldn't help but think of Tom and his "can o peas" story. (I did have a spoon  ;D ) For you newer folks on the Forum, Tom was one of the earliest members, but has since passed on to the great sawmill in the sky. He was without equal at 2 things...portable sawmilling and writing. I strongly suggest looking in the upper right corner of the forum home page. There's a little box marked "In memorium" . There's currently 3 people listed there, one of them is Tom Cadenhead. Click there and it will take you to Tom's web site. There's several categories there, from portable sawmilling to life in general, and a whole pile of short stories penned by Tom. You will enjoy every one of them. MY favorite one is about a possum sandwich.. When Tom passed away, some generous person made arrangements to have that web site remain in place as a memorial to Tom. It's a beautiful memorial.

Thanks, Pineywoods for that reminder of our fine friend, Tom.
He is missed by many.  May he rest in peace. :'(

No doubt about it; when they made Tom they broke the mold.  I think about him often.

Over the years, I've gotten a few PM's from Tom on different subjects and the thing I really liked was Tom's nature, He didn't know me from Adam and he conversed like he had known me for years!

You're sorely missed Mr Tom!

Thanks piney, all this time a treasure trove of knowledge right in front of me.  Good stuff for sure,  I only wish I had met Tom, just reading his story I feel as though I did know him.  And I'm glad to find out that I have been sawing reaction wood the way he did.  thanks again piney,  have a great day,   david
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

I too think of Tom often.  Shortly after I joined the FF, he took the time to send me a very kind personal note thanking me for some of my posts, and his kindness has never been forgotten.

He was truly a treasure to his friends, acquaintances and the members of The Forestry Forum.

When Tom died, he left a big hole in his community and on this forum. I wish I had known him. What a good guy!

I don't feel he left a hole in the forum, but he left a hole in our hearts for sure. I can betcha Tom wouldn't say there is a hole in the forum as well. The forum is still full of Tom's wisdom and always will be. He made sure to pass on as much of that wisdom as well as his humor and spirit that he possibly could to other members so there never would be a hole, but a bridge to the future members.

I agree with both Jeff and Mesquite Buckeye.  Tom's passing did leave a hole in this forum, but the hole he left is a gold mine.

I miss him a bunch.  He helped me figure the sharpening game out some.  I am still learning but I got a jump start listening to him.  He never lost his zeal to teach others.  Banjo

Met Tom at the Pig Roast. We had a great relationship, Long phone chats and many emails over the years.  He was a great help on all aspects of milling especially band sharpening. Everything he told me was true and accurate. We should all try to do so well. Like all of us I really miss him. You can still access a lot of his insights and knowledge on the Forum.............

Tom and I started on the Forum at about the same time. I started with a stock brown bear head as my avatar, but Tom soon changed it to the grey tipped Grizzly Bear head which he took from a favored picture on his house wall. He said that it was more fitting for me. The Grizzly Bear head stays as my personal memory of Tom.
