I am traveling down to Baton Rouge in the next week or so for work. Any members within a 20 minute drive of Baton Rouge that would not mind a visitor one afternoon? Also, whats there to do in Baton Rouge? Thanks for the help!

Casinos, college girls, vodo, 45 min from burbon street. Many more things that could lead to divorce.

Danger, warning Will Robinson. Parts of BR are very dangerous. Be mindful of where you are. I got lost there one night in the wee hours of the morning after having pulled off the interstate and couldn't get back on. Drove around for a while and finally saw a patrol car setting in a church parking lot. Stopped to ask how to get back to the interstate and told him I was lost. He holstered his gun and told me, "DanGed right you are or you wouldn't be back here". He proceeded to tell me how to get out by making a couple of turns and heading back toward the interstate. He also told me there were three stop signs and two red lights on the way back but for me to run them and not stop for anything or anybody. I passed through BR many a time after that but never had the nerve to get off the interstate again.  :o

Wife and I spent a weekend in New Orleans in Sept. visiting with family. We stayed  1 block off Bourbon street! This is definatly a very unique experiance. I am glad I am 49 years old for my 1st visit. If I was a younger man it would be too easy to get in trouble quick! LOL. I think everyone should see Bourbon street on a Sat. night at least once! At my age I tend to see the sad side of life for a lot of the people that were out running the street. The sea food there was outstanding though.

So you're all saying that Baton Rouge is like West Philly? I'm gonna feel right at home then!  ;) Thanks for the advice. I fly into New Orleans but I am not staying there so no Bourbon Street for me. Not much of a gambler either. Keep the suggestions coming though.

Fyi.  eat at hole in the wall resturants. in louisiana they are usually the best.

You might want to increase your range for visits.  Twenty minutes won't get you across town.  ;)

DanG, I don't know how long I will have to visit so I figured 20 minutes would cut it. Would 45 minutes be a better radius?

Hole in the wall places are always the best places to eat in most cities. Any you know of in particular?

There is a Crawford's II on Stanford  I believe. Get off the sled at Perkins and it changes name just before Crawford's. No Crawford's One anymore but they will fix you up with the best fried catfish this side of Bozo's. Which reminds me, head for the airport with plenty of time when you are leaving and pass by Bozo's in Metairie(edge of new Orleans). The owner's nickname, and they have been in business seventy-five years or so. The best seafood platter this side of anywhere!

Haven't lived in Baton Rouge for many years now, was a nice friendly place when I was there. My business I mentioned being robbed 22 times in 1970 in another post was in Baton Rouge. Kinda in the edge of the area the LEO gave directions and advice not to stop for anything until strangers were out of.

Nice plantation homes, decent museums, but I never really did the tourist thing that much in Baton Rouge being raised in the area. Definitely a party town if that is your thing but I don't know the in places these days. I don't even know the low dives anymore which I was well acquainted with in my pool hustl, er, sporting days.

Baton Rouge isn't really that bad. Like everywhere you go, you can pretty much find whatever you are looking for. Tons of good people and good food, no shortage of people ready to party or fight at the drop of a hat, whichever.

I would try to sneak over to Breaux Bridge and the original Mulatte's while you are in the area. Decent food, live Cajun music evenings and weekends. If you can hang overnight in nearby Lafayette so much the better, you are in Acadiana over there. Living in Baton Rouge, every weekend in my high school years me and my running buddy went to Breaux Bridge, St. Martinville, Lafayette, New Iberia, all over that country to party. If your family wasn't partying that weekend just stop and say hello at the first outdoor goings on you come to at a private house. You were always invited to stay awhile. High school friends tried to tell us there were closer places to party.

"Not really"
