We don't have any hemlock around these parts, but pine pulp is around $30 at the mill, $21 to the broker 50 miles shorter transport, hardwood is $20 to the same broker.

I will tell you what pulp wood is on my land. I think it has to be bigger than 4 inches, use to be just about any lenght, but longer than 4 feet, but no longer than 8 feet. Smaller than 28 inches too.Really anything that does not make a saw log. It would really be the tops of the trees,or real crooked ones that would not make good saw logs. Sold by the ton. This is used for paper making in my area.

In my area there is no pulpwood market. Low grade logs are firewood logs. I wish I could pay per ton what you guys get for pulp. Loggers around here would leave it in the woods to rot for $20-30 per ton delivered. $40 per ton average gets some into my yard.

I just had an appraisal done and was quoted $24 a ton pulpwood, $26/ton CNS, $27-28/ton sawtimber on SYP. That's stumpage to me, the landowner. When you put a sharp pencil to those numbers, discounting back to net present value, It makes it tough. I happen to like the way the place looks with timber on it.
