I almost could not believe my ears when My PHd NASA Scientist type son in law asked if we could go rabbit hunting today. I answered sure and called a hunting buddy before he could back out.

I took him fishing 10 years ago, his first time, and now he enjoys the sport.  So today I hope is the start of him enjoying hunting too.  I have gotten him to shoot some of my rifles, shotguns, and pistols over the years but believed be would never have a desire to hunt.

He did not want to carry a gun and I wanted him to have a good experience, so I had him walk with me. We did not have any beagles for this hunt so we just shoulder to shoulder hunted through the thicker parts of my woods.

I had shot 2 rabbits within the first 30 minutes of the hunt, now was my time to get him hooked. I gave him my Benelli SBE, re-explained the safety, and everything else, and my goodness, he shot the next 2 rabbits without a miss.

After the hunt we downed a few beers together while he watched me dress the rabbits and we just finished supper with cajun wild rabbit. Big hit for me today, now I hope he liked it enough to get him into deer hunting.

My daughter, SIL, and grandson (1 1/2 yr old) are here visiting over the holidays so it worked out perfectly.  They also live in Ohio so if he wants to hunt some more he wont have that far to go. Good excuse to see my grandson more often too.

I have to say it was a Great Day!

You had me when you mentioned "son" in the first sentence.  I knew that it was going to be a successful day.   smiley_thumbsup  Congratulations to both of you.
