my ezboardwalk 40 did not come with any lights. the driver that delivered my mill had a amber blinking light on the rear that was still blinking at 9.00 am when i met him. he drove all night from mo. to wv. he had to pass law officials. they tell me no lights is needed. i still like the  blinking light for safety.

Freeway driving is where i have noticed fast last minute lane changes. I picked up this led light bar and built a removable mount for it, It is wired thru a trailer light plug to the sawmills tail light. I run with lights on day or night.
I also added enough reflective tape to the sides and rear to give a basic out line.

MY first thought was the flashing light was fine. The sign with slanted lines could be mistaken for flare boards or delineator signs which could cause some confusion. I would check the legality of using that design.

I really don't see any reason that the lightbar would be illegal!

Wouldn't take much to make one!

This video shows the travel package used on the wood mizer.

Did you notice the license plate? That was not from the US. Is that same package available in the US? Either way, it does show options that we could put on the machine ourselves.

Chuck White,

The reason that the three light strip may be illegal is that it is a "Rear Identification Lamp Strip" and it must be mounted in the center of a vehicle/trailer that is 80" wide, or wider.

At night an offset RIL would falsely indicate the center of the vehicle you are approaching, and would also indicate that it was actually wider than it may be.  Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards govern the color, brightness, mounting location, spacing, number, flash rate, etc. for all external vehicle lighting.  More lighting is not always better.

Yeah, I knew it wasn't in the US but figured the mills are made in the US so they should have them here also.

All I can say is that MM made it to Rusk, Tx just fine. I suppose that his judgement on what to do was just fine. You can't drive that far and not have some law enforcement person see that orange thing and say what the hay, whats wrong with this picture if it wasn't ok.  bg

That mill was built in Poland for the European market.  I like the work platform.

A light bar like that would be needed if you wanted to tow the mill here in NZ, and I suspect the same in the EU. It would have to be registered and inspected like any other trailer, and would need a full set up lights (rear, brake and indicator) mounted on the "back bumper" If it didn't have a back bumper, then you'd need to mount a removable one like was shown.

It's not treated as an "agricultural implement", unless it's towed by a tractor, at less than 30 km/h

Tom; I was referring to the lightbar in the youtube video!

One like that would clearly indicate the rear of the mill and the approximate width as well!

All in all, I think anything that is added, safety minded to get other drivers to realize the dimensions of the mill would be good!

You can get those lights like MM showed, from a bicycle shop. A lot of them are used for tail lights/flashers on bicycles...... and logging trucks (I've used them for years)! ;D

As thick as the fog that was freezing to my antana tonight was when I came thru the medford valley, I was considering that flashing light option of yours, I was glad to pull into the driveway affter the 225 mile trip over the pass.
If you only move your mill ocationaly you can schedule the move around the weather, but if you do all your milling portable you will be moving your mill in all weather and good lights and reflectors help others to define the odd shape of these mills.
