Well, haven't been running her much lately, the 362 has been the main go to with a 20"

Had a... massive cotton wood V Tree that had to go away and a few that were 34" n 36" at a few feet up.... well I could have done it with the 362 but what a great excuse to bring the old girl (and my first saw) back out.

I'll have to get a few of the V stump ended up ripping it into thirds so I could move.the bids before cutting it off near ground.

It was the first Stihl I owned and I have two of them .The first came from a dealer in Oregon with a spun bearing .I repaired it ,new bearing, seals etc .
They have plenty of power but parts are getting difficult to find especially the clutch side seal and bearing .I think I have only one new seal left .

I like the thinking here. Always good when you can reach back and pull out a bilg old saw for a job like that. :)

The longest bar I have for that size saw in 3/8" .050 is 32" .I have a 36" but that's in .404 .063 .I think that would be a little ever the top for 77 cc .Besides if it takes over 32" this is Ohio not Oregon ,we don't have many trees it would take longer than 32" and if so I have a number of 100 pus CC saws to do that with bars up to 48" .

Parts are scarce.... I did a rebuild on her of everything I could new bearings new clutch, wrist pin, rings, starter, ect but couldn't find a top end or piston. The only master control switch I could find was in Croatia and couldn't get them to respond.... but she still cuts like a champ. Spins slower then my modern saws but doesn't bog down as easily either.

The rings are 038 Mag and I think maybe Husqvarna 272-372, 52 MM .I have no idea what if anything might be a replacement for the piston .Every so often a cylinder might come up on flea bay, used of course .

I did some research on the clutch side seal which is 20-35-4 NLA .--Edited wrong info .OD is 35.8 .sorry

I did find the bones of the 042 but I'll need to spin the clutch off to see the seal . If there is enough clearance behind the clutch it might be possible to shove a  30 or 32 MM OD seal in using a sleeve of some sort using a 7 mm thick in place of a 4mm  thick seal .This one it would take some creativity to be able to adapt something because it's simply no longer made .
An option might be making a spreader device to deform the inner portion of the seal outward to expand it .8 mm so it could seal in the pocket then anchor it with red loctite .Neither way would be easy if even possible .On the red loctite I have used it to anchor a seal on an 038 mag and it worked .

I just sold a NOS/OEM 048 P/C set to a member on another site.  I got it off ebay sold as a 038M P/C.  I didn't look it over for quite a while and found out it was a 52mm 048 , not 52mm 048.
